Flexible, fully remote clinical-advisory work that fits around your life — for an experienced RN who wants to shape good care without another shift on the floor.
Ember Care is a new person-centred home care agency serving Waterloo Region, and we're looking for a Registered Nurse to provide clinical advisory review of our care documentation on a contract basis. This is remote, flexible, low-volume work you can do from anywhere in Ontario, on your own schedule — a meaningful way to put your clinical judgment to work in a few focused hours, alongside whatever else you do.
What the role is
- Review each new client's person-centred profile and draft care plan — remotely and asynchronously
- Setting plain-language escalation thresholds for each plan, recorded so the front-line team has clear, actionable triggers
- Giving a scope-and-fit view — is this safely within non-medical home care, and what would change that? — and escalating scope concerns to the Coordinator with a recommended action
- Confirming our transfer-category policy for each client, and flagging any client whose needs sit above the agreed categories
- Joining a live video call with the Coordinator while they're on-site with the client when a profile or draft plan trips a defined safety trigger and can't be signed off from documents alone
- Signing off the care plan, or flagging what needs to change
What the role is not — this matters
This is a documentation and service-design advisory role. You review our written profiles and plans; you do not visit, assess, examine, or treat clients, and no nurse–client relationship is created. You're advising the agency, not delivering nursing care. It's exactly the kind of engagement that suits an experienced nurse who wants flexible, remote clinical input without hands-on caseload.
Why an experienced RN might love this
- Fully remote and flexible — review on your schedule, from anywhere in Ontario
- Low, predictable volume that fits neatly alongside other work or a fuller life
- Genuinely meaningful — your thresholds and judgment directly shape how safely and kindly people are cared for at home
- Paid per review, as an independent contractor — simple and clean
Who we're looking for
- Current registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO)
- Your own professional liability protection for independent practice (e.g., RNAO/CNPS or equivalent)
- Community, home care, geriatric, or care-coordination experience is a strong asset
- Sound, plain-language clinical judgment and clear written communication
- Comfort working independently as a contractor (you invoice us per review)
The engagement
This is an independent-contractor arrangement with a flat fee per care-plan review, set out in a short services agreement. We'll confirm the fee and expected volume with you directly — we want this to be worth your while and easy to fit into your week.
Interested?
Apply with a brief note about your nursing background and your interest in flexible advisory work. A real person reviews every application. We'll verify CNO registration and proof of your own liability coverage before your first review.
Ember Care is an equal-opportunity organization and welcomes applicants of every background.
Pay: From $40.00 per hour
Benefits:
- Flexible schedule

Application question(s):
- Are you currently registered and in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO)?

- This is a remote, independent-contractor role reviewing care documentation — not a clinical or in-home nursing position. Are you comfortable with that arrangement?
