The Career and Professional Development Office in the Faculty of Law is currently seeking a Full-time Regular Career Advisor.
The Career Advisor (Advisor) reports to the Head, Career and Professional Development Office (Head), and works collaboratively with the Senior Career Advisor (Senior Advisor) to provide coaching and career advising to law students. The Advisor also assists in delivering career programming and events for more than 400 law students, both independently and in partnership with the Senior Advisor.
The Advisor is expected to exercise sound professional judgment and contribute ideas and solutions while working closely with the Head and other members of the Career and Professional Development Office (CPDO), including career staff in the Foreign Trained Lawyers Program (FTLP). The role requires the ability to set priorities, maintain confidentiality, and manage multiple responsibilities effectively. Strong organizational, communication, and presentation skills are essential, as the work demands close attention to detail, sustained concentration, and consistent follow-through. Accuracy is critical given the significant consequences of error.
The role involves considerable pressure associated with supporting students through articling recruitment and placement processes, which operate on tight and ongoing timelines throughout all three years of the Faculty of Law program. While standard working hours generally apply, availability to attend early morning and evening events is required.
Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

Collaborate with the Head and Senior Advisor to implement and deliver Faculty of Law CPDO programming that supports law students' career development and professional growth.

Provide career advising to law students, with a focus on career planning, job search strategies, and professional development.

Liaise with the FTLP team to coordinate cross-promotional initiatives for FTLP and JD students, and collaborate on the planning and delivery of selected joint programming and networking events.
Work with the Senior Advisor to review, update, and maintain career resources and materials.
Provide student coaching and career advising services, including:
o Resume and cover letter review;
o Interview preparation and skills coaching;
o Job search and career exploration support;
o Guidance on professionalism and workplace expectations;
o Assistance with applications, recruitment timelines, and networking strategies; and
o Advice regarding offers and salary negotiation.
