Company Summary:
Founded in 2008, REV’s sole focus is electrical power, its generation, distribution, control, protection and safe utilization. REV is acknowledged throughout our industry as a leader in safety.
Position Overview:
Responsible for producing engraved identification products (lamacoid/nameplates, mimic bus labels, device tags, terminal markers, legends, and signage) used on custom electrical switchgear and associated equipment. This role converts engineering/shop markups into accurate CorelDRAW layouts, operates a Universal-brand engraving/laser system, and ensures all plates meet drawing requirements, CSA/industry expectations, and internal quality standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Production & Machine Operation (Universal engraver/laser)
- Set up and safely operate a Universal laser engraver (power/speed/PPI settings), including job setup, focus/height setting, bed layout, and fixture use.
- Load and verify materials.
- Perform test cuts/engraves to confirm depth/contrast, alignment, and character size before full runs.
- Run production jobs efficiently while maintaining required quality and traceability.
- Perform basic maintenance: lens/mirror cleaning (if applicable), bed cleaning, checking exhaust/air assist, filter checks, and routine calibration/verification.
- Troubleshoot common issues (poor contrast, inconsistent depth, misalignment, material warping, smoke residue, incomplete cuts) and escalate when needed.
CorelDRAW Programming / Artwork Preparation
- Create, edit, and manage engraving files in CorelDRAW according to company templates and naming conventions.
- Interpret drawings, BOMs, and tag schedules to generate correct legends, device IDs, wire markers, and panel labels.
- Set up correct fonts, text height, line weights, kerf/offsets (if cutting), and color mapping/layers per Universal driver requirements.
- Ensure correct orientation (reading direction), edge margins, hole locations (if drilling/cutting), and adherence to standard tag formats.
- Maintain a controlled library of standard plate layouts (e.g., breaker tags, selector switch legends, warning labels) to improve repeatability.
Quality Control & Documentation
- Verify each job against the tag schedule/drawing: spelling, capitalization, tag numbers, terminal IDs, equipment references, CSA warning wording (when specified).
- Inspect finished parts for legibility, contrast, surface defects, correct size, and correct quantity.
- Identify and segregate nonconforming parts; rework/remake as required.
- Track work completed (job traveler sign-off, quantity made/scrap, time, material usage) in the company’s system (ERP, spreadsheet, or job packets).
- Package and label finished nameplates for the correct project/panel/section to prevent mix-ups.
Coordination & Shop Support
- Work closely with Engineering, Panel Shop/Wiring, QA, and Shipping to prioritize plates aligned to the production schedule.
- Clarify unclear legends or conflicting information before engraving.
- Support continuous improvement: templates, standard settings by material, mistake-proofing, and job batching to reduce setup time.
Qualifications:
- 2 years’ experience operating an engraving machine/laser engraver in a manufacturing environment.
- Proficiency with CorelDRAW (creating text layouts, alignment tools, templates, importing lists).
- Strong attention to detail—ability to consistently produce error-free text/labels.
- Ability to read and follow work instructions, drawings, and tag schedules.
- Comfortable working with measurements, tolerances, and basic inspection tools (ruler/calipers).
