Position Summary
The Material Technician is responsible for receiving, inspecting, documenting, storing, and issuing materials to support fabrication operations. This role is vital to maintaining accurate material control, ensuring traceability, and supporting safe, efficient, and high-quality fabrication operations.
Responsibilities
- Receive and inspect incoming materials for accuracy, damage, and compliance with specifications; including but not limited to:
- Size
- Schedule
- Grade
- Heat Number
- Verify shipments against purchase orders, packing slips, and shipping documents.
- Complete Material Receiving Reports (MRRs) and maintain Material Test Reports (MTRs) to ensure traceability.
- Label/tag materials in accordance with shop procedures and scan information into applicable job/inventory folder.
- Report discrepancies, damaged material, and missing items to QC & PM.
- Safely unload, transport, and store materials using approved material handling equipment.
- Issue materials to fabrication crews based on production requirements.
- Maintain accurate inventory records and assist with inventory counts.
- Keep storage and receiving areas clean, organized, and safe.
- Assist with shipping finished products as required.
- Follow all company safety policies and procedures.
- Coordinate with Production, Quality Control, and Purchasing to ensure materials are available to support fabrication schedules
Qualifications
- Knowledge of fabrication materials and material identification.
- Ability to read purchase orders, packing slips, and material specifications.
- Experience operating forklifts and overhead cranes.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Basic computer and inventory management skills.
Understanding of material traceability and quality control requirements.
