Application for positions furthering Indigenous Education in the Calgary Board of Education:
- Indigenous Educators; and
- Educators with extensive experience teaching or working in Indigenous settings (e.g. Indigenous specific school and/or program) and/or completion of advanced studies in Indigenous Education
Please apply for only one job posting. You do not need to apply for any other teaching job postings.
To apply, all applicants are required to complete two steps:
Step 1: In the application:
- include Cover Letter (**see prompts below) and Updated Resume (1-2 pages)

Step 2: Upload the following documents to the "My Job Applications" page of your Careers account. See Adding Application Attachments for support.
- Copy of Valid Alberta Teaching Certificate or Pre-Certification letter from Alberta Education with Interim certification reference number and a letter from the university confirming your graduation
- Practicum evaluation reports and/or Teaching evaluations as applicable
Note: Practicum/Teaching evaluations and reference letters must be signed and on institution letterhead. Unsigned letters and evaluations will not be accepted.

Applicants who are considered for hire will be asked to provide references:
- Recently graduated applicants or teachers who have fewer than five (5) years of teaching experience will be asked to provide three (3) email addresses for current or recent supervisors in an educational setting. This can include partner/cooperating teachers.
- Teachers who have five (5) or more years of teaching experience will be asked to provide one (1) email address for their current or most recent supervisor in an educational setting.
Please note** for applicants applying to specialized postings (French/Spanish/Mandarin/Inclusive Education/Indigenous Education), it is expected that upon hire, this will be the primary area in which you will sub/teach.
**Cover Letter:
To gain a holistic understanding of applicants to the Indigenous Education posting, we are requesting that the cover letter clearly:
1) Describes the applicant’s fit to be an educator within the CBE; and
2) Details the applicant’s background, experiences and understanding of Indigenous ways of being, belonging, doing and knowing.
Sample prompts to support the writing of the cover letter are shared below. These are shared as possible questions to consider not as a list of questions that must be answered.

- Who are you? What is your ancestral and cultural background? Where are you from? What Indigenous community affiliations do you have? What does this mean to you?
- How has your Indigenous identity helped shape who you are? What are some of the significant experiences that nurture your identity? What does being Indigenous mean to you as an educator? How has your cultural identity informed your beliefs about education?
- Do you speak an Indigenous language?
- How can who you are help you become an exceptional educator and/or leader in the CBE?
- What motivated you to apply to the Indigenous Education position? What knowledge and experience do you bring that will help the CBE to support improved achievement and well-being for students who self-identify as Indigenous?
- What career aspirations do you have?
- What is an example of work you have done that has helped students to succeed personally and academically?
Cover Letter Prompts for Educators with extensive experience teaching or working in Indigenous settings (e.g. Indigenous specific school and/or program) and/or completion of advanced studies in Indigenous Education:
