The role also supports governance activities arising from Skilled Trades Ontario's
statutory responsibilities under the Building Opportunities in the Skilled Trades Act, 2021
(BOSTA), including governance oversight of hearing-related processes, procedural
compliance requirements, and the administration of delegated adjudicative functions.
The position assists with governance initiatives, ensures the quality and integrity of Board
materials and records, supports compliance with legislative and regulatory requirements,
and contributes to the development and implementation of governance best practices
across Skilled Trades Ontario.
While the position has no direct reports, it provides functional leadership across
governance workstreams by establishing standards, coordinating contributors,
influencing outcomes, and driving governance priorities to completion.
Responsibilities:
Governance & Board Operations:
- Lead the planning, coordination and execution of assigned Board and committee
governance cycles, ensuring alignment with legislative, regulatory, and
governance requirements.
- Act on behalf of the Corporate Secretary & Coordinator of Legal Affairs on
assigned governance matters and meetings within delegated authority.
- Provide governance advice and recommendations to executives, Board members,
committee Chairs, and senior leaders regarding governance obligations,
procedural matters, and decision-making authorities.
- Prepare and quality assure agendas, Board submissions, briefing materials,
resolutions, minutes, and governance records to ensure completeness, accuracy,
and decision readiness.
- Assist with maintaining governance records, corporate registers, by-laws,
committee terms of reference, resolutions, and official governance documentation.
- Manage governance calendars, Board work plans, action trackers, and decision
registers, identifying risks and issues requiring escalation.
- Lead governance improvement initiatives, governance education activities, Board
onboarding programs, and implementation of governance best practices.
- Monitor governance requirements arising from BOSTA and advise on governance
practices, procedural obligations, and Board-related implications associated with
statutory responsibilities.
- Support governance activities related to committees, panels, or decision-making
bodies established under STO's legislative mandate.
