We are looking to fill a full-time position at Vintage Spirits, located in Victoria's historic Hotel Rialto.
The Wine & Spirits Sales Associate is expected to provide responsible beverage service and excellent customer service, as well as to be passionate about wine, spirits, and beer.
They are also expected to either hold accreditation from a third party as proof of their training in this field or have appropriate prior experience.
They are to be prompt, timely, organized, and treat others—both staff and customers alike—with respect.
Hiring priority will be given to those based on their knowledge of products and/or experience working in the industry, with rate of remuneration determined by applicable experience and qualifications.
This is not a casual retail position, and requires in-depth knowledge or experience with wine, spirits, beer, or cocktails.
Job Responsibilities
- Deliver warm, friendly, and professional service to customers and team members alike.
- Discuss wine and spirits and length with customers, providing insight into the production and provenance thereof, and assist with pairing wine with food, purchasing it as a gift, and/or for long-term storage.
- Handle cash and debit/credit transactions of liquor, wine, beer, etc. accurately.
- Ensure that tills are balanced daily, and that customers have been charged correctly for the items they purchase.
- Perform accurate cash drops nightly.
- Provide responsible beverage service in line with the rules as laid out by Serving it Right.
- Refusal of service to intoxicated or inebriated customers.
- Checking ID to ensure customers are 19+.
- Keeping an eye on what’s going on outside and questionable purchases so as to prevent booting for minors.
- Calling a taxi for anyone who is intoxicated upon being refused service to ensure they get home safe.
- Help us to keep a detailed log of any refusals of service daily.
- Maintain cleanliness of store (dusting shelves & bottles, wiping down surfaces & glass doors, sweeping, taking out trash and recycling daily).
- Receive and put away orders daily; with the ability to regularly lift up to 50lbs.
- Stock shelves and/or beer & wine fridges daily.
- Repackage beer into 6-packs regularly.
- Share product knowledge with customers and team members alike.
- Observe and report all security issues.
- Other duties as assigned.

- Strong organizational skills.
Qualifications
- Be 19 years of age or older
- Valid Serving it Right certification and keeping it actively renewed.
- Accreditation/certification and training in wines and spirits, including but not limited to certificates/diplomas from: Wine and Spirit Education Trust (WSET), International Sommeliers Guild (ISG), Court of Master Sommeliers (CMS), Society of Wine Educators (SWE) - OR applicable prior experience working in liquor stores/the beverage industry at large.
