Materials Handler (6‑Month Term)

Job Summary
We are currently seeking a reliable and detail‑oriented Materials Handler to join our manufacturing and warehouse operations team on a 6‑month term basis. This role is responsible for receiving, sorting, picking, staging, and distributing materials to support production and internal customers. The ideal candidate is accurate, safety‑focused, adaptable, and thrives in a fast‑paced environment.
IMPORTANT EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENT
All successful candidates must pass a pre‑employment drug and alcohol test and a criminal record check as a condition of employment.
Work Schedule
- Either 4 days per week at 10 hours per day, or 5 days per week at 8 hours per day
- Final schedule will be discussed upon employment
Key Responsibilities
- Pick, prepare, and kit parts according to Bills of Materials using system‑generated pick slips
- Label, tag, and stage material kits accurately and according to process requirements
- Distribute materials to production lines and internal customers, ensuring correct quantities and locations
- Perform cycle counts and participate in physical inventory counts
- Receive, sort, segregate, store, and label incoming and returned materials
- Process returned parts from the production floor following established procedures
- Maintain alignment between system inventory and physical stock
- Communicate material shortages, discrepancies, or at‑risk parts to the Materials Coordinator
- Identify and report picking errors for resolution and continuous improvement
- Support lean manufacturing and efficient material handling practices (e.g., Kanban)
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area
- Follow all workplace safety policies and report unsafe conditions promptly
- Perform other materials‑related duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 1 year of experience in a materials handling or warehouse role
- Experience picking, sorting, staging, and distributing parts
- Ability to safely operate forklifts (counterbalance, reach truck, pallet jack)
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Solid organizational and time‑management skills
- Ability to multitask and work effectively in a fast‑paced environment
- Basic computer skills, including inventory systems and scanners; familiarity with Excel and Outlook is an asset
- Strong work ethic, reliability, and teamwork skills
- Good attendance and punctuality
- Valid driver’s license with a good driving record
- Willingness to work indoors and outdoors year‑round while using proper PPE
- Legally eligible to work in Canada
