Position Summary and Responsibilities
- Experience working with youth ages 16–24.
- Knowledge of trauma-informed, strength-based approaches.
- Experience working with vulnerable populations and a strong sense of empathy and ethics.
- Ability to provide guidance, mentorship, and support while maintaining professional
boundaries.
- Strong interpersonal skills, including tact, diplomacy, and the ability to establish rapport.
- Comfort working in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities and high-pressure
situations.
- Strong attention to detail, including accurate documentation, case notes, and file management.
- Ability to facilitate life skills development (e.g., cooking, cleaning, personal maintenance) and
recreational programming.
- Requires accommodating last-minute schedule changes, including short-notice shift
adjustments and call-ins to ensure continuous and safe house operations. No guarantee of
hours. This is a 24-hour operation. Day and night shift availability required.
- A valid Class 5 driver’s license, minimum $2 million liability car insurance, and access to reliable
transportation.
- Intermediate computer skills (HIFIS reporting experience considered an asset).
- Willingness to work in both emergency shelter (Stellar House) and supportive housing (Poplar
House) locations.
Qualifications
- Provide direct support, mentorship, and case management to youth accessing YMCA housing
programs.
- Accurately complete client intakes, maintain files, and adhere to YMCA documentation policies.

- Utilize crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques to ensure a safe environment.
- Support youth in setting and achieving personal goals, building life skills, and navigating social
services.
- Prepare meals, assist with transportation, and ensure a clean and welcoming housing
environment.
- Support the planning and delivery of recreational and developmental programming.
- Work collaboratively with YMCA colleagues, leadership, and external partners.
- Adhere to YMCA policies, procedures, and shelter rules.
- Provide coverage across housing programs as needed.
- Other duties as assigned by your supervisor.
