Our client is a well-established civil construction contractor specializing in infrastructure projects across Vancouver Island and the Central Coast of British Columbia. They are seeking a Health & Safety Manager to lead and continuously improve their company-wide safety program while supporting ongoing growth across multiple civil construction projects. This position is based out of Nanaimo, BC.
- Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the company’s Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) program.
- Provide leadership and mentorship to a team of 4+ Construction Safety Officers (CSOs) supporting civil construction crews across Vancouver Island and the Central Coast.
- Ensure compliance with WorkSafeBC regulations, COR requirements, and client-specific safety standards.
- Conduct site visits, inspections, investigations, and safety audits across active civil construction projects, including remote job sites.
- Collaborate with Operations, Project Managers, and Superintendents to integrate safety into all phases of project execution.
- Lead incident investigations, corrective action planning, and return-to-work coordination.
- Oversee company-wide safety training initiatives, Joint Health & Safety Committees, and regulatory reporting.
- Maintain safety documentation, audit requirements, training records, and company safety statistics.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in heavy civil construction safety management.
- Experience managing safety systems and leading safety teams within the civil construction industry.
- NCSO designation or equivalent required; CRSP designation considered a strong asset.
- Strong knowledge of WorkSafeBC regulations, COR audit processes, and construction safety best practices.
- Experience supporting infrastructure projects such as underground utilities, roads, bridges, excavation, or hydro/power projects.
- Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and team-building skills.
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License.
- Ability and willingness to travel to remote project sites across Vancouver Island and the Central Coast as required.
