The Student Services Administration Team in Student Experience and Support is currently seeking a Full-time Temporary Relief Sexual and Gender-Based Violence Support Advisor for approximately 6 months.
The Sexual and Gender-Based Violence Support Advisor position reports to the Manager, Sexual and Gender Based Violence Response and Prevention. The Advisor works closely with their Manager in providing support to those members of the University community who have experienced or been impacted by sexual or gender-based violence, and provides support and expertise in assessing complex risk for both the individual and the broader campus community.
The Sexual and Gender-Based Violence Support Advisor is responsible for supporting education,
awareness and programming efforts related to sexual and gender-based violence prevention as well as education on the impact of sexual and gender-based violence, rape myths, rape culture etc. The Sexual and Gender-Based Violence Support Advisor will provide training on topics including responding to disclosures, consent, reporting options/procedures, and available resources.
This position is predominantly located at the U of C Main Campus; however, travel to the other campuses may also be required. Work is complex, with peak periods and short timelines for completion. This is a unionized position working 35 hours a week, Monday to Friday, including early evenings, with occasional requirement to work outside of regular hours.

Establish collaborative relationships with key stakeholders on and off-campus to ensure effective wrap-around support for impacted individuals and to facilitate knowledge/understanding of supports in place should a disclosure be received.
Offer scheduled presentations to the campus community to further understanding and knowledge of critical topics related to sexual and gender-based violence and to increase knowledge of the sexual and gender-based violence policy and service roles with in the office of sexual and gender-based violence prevention and education.
Providing appropriate referrals to internal and external resources.
Supporting community members through advocacy to be able to remain at work or in school in a
healthy, safe, and supportive manner.
Administration

Review and respond to email communication sent to the Sexual and Gender-based Violence.

Prevention and Support office inbox.

Triage requests and schedule appointments in a timely and responsive manner.

Assist the Manager in daily operations and administration duties of the office.

Work with the Manager in program planning and research, ensuring best practice at all times.
-
Develop and deliver presentations on behalf of the sexual and gender-based violence prevention and support office that educate the campus community on available resources and programs.

Represent the work of the Sexual and Gender-Based Violence Prevention and Support Office on institutional committees and campus events.

Collaborate with the SES marketing & communications team to evaluate and keep the office website current.

Maintain client files according to retention rules and confidentiality protocols in accordance with standards established with the Access and Privacy Office (University Legal Services) and ensure files are updated in a timely, thorough and ethical manner.

Ensure all analysis and reporting efforts are compliant with university processes and FOIP.

Manage own time to effectively accomplish tasks and to ensure deadlines are met.

Exercise sound judgment and decision-making following outlined procedures and guidelines.

Ensure Manager is kept informed of activities and progress of work.

Ensure that the work assigned is completed, in compliance with all departmental and university policies.
Qualifications / Requirements:
-
Bachelor's degree in social work or related field; current and maintenance of professional registration is required if applicable (RSW).

2 years of professional experience working with victims/survivors of sexual and gender-based violence.
-
2 years of professional experience developing education materials for adult audiences and facilitating workshops.
-
2 years of professional experience working in mental health and crisis intervention.
-
Trauma-informed, with expertise in understanding the impact of trauma caused by sexual and gender-based violence.

Being a strong ally to gender diverse communities.
-
Effective decision-making and independent judgment.
-
Knowledge of multiple and intersectional theories which ground work (e.g., feminist, critical race, anti-oppression, marginalized identity, student development).
-
High degree of intercultural competence.
-
Knowledge of community-based resources and ability to foster and maintain effective working relationships with community-based partners.
-
Demonstrated strong regard for adherence to professional boundaries and for issues of confidentiality and dealing with highly sensitive material; strong understanding of privacy and human rights legislation.

Experience with outreach, advocacy, and collaborative approaches.

Passionate and committed to being a safe support for people of all genders, sexualities, and backgrounds, with authentic empathy skills.

Proven ability to work effectively with multiple departments, organizations, and people in sensitive and complex situations.

Strong presentation and group facilitation skills.

Advanced knowledge about patriarchy, sexual and gender-based violence, and systems thinking.

Provide a Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector search dated within 6 months.
