Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Driller (HDD Operator) to support our growing operations. This role is critical to the successful delivery of underground utility and fiber optic infrastructure projects. The ideal candidate is highly skilled, mechanically inclined, and capable of operating in a fast-paced, high-performance environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate horizontal directional drilling (HDD) equipment for telecom and utility installations
- Execute bores safely and accurately in accordance with engineered plans and locates
- Perform pre-trip inspections, daily maintenance, and troubleshooting of drill equipment
- Coordinate with hydrovac, locator, and civil crews to ensure safe and efficient drilling operations
- Read and interpret construction drawings, utility locates, and bore plans
- Maintain accurate drilling logs, daily reports, and as-built information
- Assist with supporting equipment (excavators, loaders, etc.) when required
- Ensure compliance with WorkSafeBC / Alberta OHS, company policies, and industry standards
- Participate in job site setup, hazard assessments (FLHA), and daily safety meetings
Qualifications
- Proven experience operating HDD equipment (Vermeer, Ditch Witch, or similar)
- Strong understanding of underground utility installation and ground disturbance practices
- Mechanical knowledge for troubleshooting and maintaining equipment
- Experience working around live utilities (gas, hydro, telecom)
- Valid driver’s license (Class 1 or 3 considered a strong asset)
- Ground Disturbance Level II certification
- Confined Space, First Aid, and other safety tickets considered assets
