Position Summary:
Reporting to the Clinical Director or Manager, the Resource Nurse oversees the day-to-day operations and coordinates the activities of the departments’ programs. The Resource Nurse is a front line leader who supports daily patient care, inter-professional care and patient flow. The Resource Nurse acts as a clinical resource for staff, facilitates communication among the interdisciplinary team and assists in decision-making in regards to bed utilization, equipment, staffing needs and patient assignments.
The Resource RN provides high quality, safe, effective and evidence-based care in partnership with patient and families, in accordance with the College of Nurses of Ontario standards and GGH’s mission, vision, values and policies. The Resource RN optimizes the patient’s experience and care outcomes by:
- Being accountable for one’s decisions and professional practice;
- Establishing a therapeutic relationship with the patient and family;
- Collaborating with other members of the patient’s care team;
- Coordinating, communicating and documenting patient care

Qualifications, Experience, Skills and Abilities:
- Licensed as a Registered Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario
- Baccalaureate Degree preferred
- BCLS Certification
- Completion of Crucial Conversations, Crisis Prevention and Management (CPM) and Gentle Persuasive Approaches (GPA)
- Minimum 3 years current Emergency Care Nursing experience (adult and paediatric)
- Current ACLS, PALS or ENPC, Trauma Course and OHA CTAS course
- Emergency Nursing Specialty Designation preferred
- Membership in nursing professional organizations preferred e.g. RNAO
- Working knowledge of life threatening arrhythmias
- Demonstrated clinical competence in nursing practice, knowledge and technical expertise specific to clinical area
- Demonstrated commitment to best practice, nursing standards and life-long learning
- Demonstrated knowledge, skill and judgement related to CNO’s Three-Factor Framework
- Demonstrated knowledge of CNO Professional Standards of Practice and Practice Guidelines
- Experience in Charge role
- Intermediate computer skills, with experience using Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook
- Strong coaching and mentoring skills to provide comprehensive leadership to an inter- disciplinary team
- Excellent critical thinking, problem-solving and autonomous decision-making skills
- Demonstrated ability to develop day-to-day operational plans in collaboration with the inter-disciplinary patient care team
- Proven organizational and time management skills
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written
- Demonstrated conflict resolution skills
- Demonstrated experience with LEAN process improvement or other quality improvement projects
- Demonstrated commitment to excellent customer service when interacting with patients, families, colleagues and physicians
