Nanaimo Disability Resource Centre is a non-profit organization that supports people with disabilities and seniors by reducing barriers, improving accessibility, and increasing independence within the community.
Through advocacy, volunteer engagement, and community support programs, NDRC works to create a more inclusive community where everyone can contribute and participate.
Position Summary
The Community Outreach Coordinator will help develop and promote a new volunteer outreach initiative focused on increasing volunteer opportunities for seniors and individuals with disabilities. This role will help challenge barriers and stereotypes by highlighting the valuable skills, experiences, and contributions these individuals bring to the community.
The successful candidate will assist with volunteer recruitment, community outreach, marketing, social media, and event participation. They will help build relationships with seniors’ residences, community groups, service clubs, and local organizations to expand volunteer engagement opportunities.
This position provides valuable hands-on experience in nonprofit operations, project coordination, marketing, communications, volunteer management, and community engagement.
The Community Outreach Coordinator will be mentored and supervised by both the Executive Director and Volunteer Coordinator.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop lists of community organizations, seniors’ homes, service clubs, and other outreach opportunities
- Assist with volunteer recruitment and community engagement activities
- Update brochures, promotional materials, and recruitment resources
- Support website updates and social media content creation
- Attend community fairs, events, and markets to promote volunteer opportunities
- Help promote accessibility, inclusion, and volunteer participation within the community
- Assist with organizing outreach campaigns and community presentations
- Support administrative tasks and project documentation as needed
Qualifications
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Friendly, professional, and confident interacting with the public
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, email, and social media
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Interest in marketing, communications, nonprofit work, or community development
Experience volunteering, participating in community activities, or working with people with disabilities or seniors is considered an asset.

Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the Canada Summer Jobs Program, applicants must:
- Be between 15 and 30 years old at the start of employment
- Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person with refugee protection under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of employment
- Be legally entitled to work in Canada according to provincial and federal legislation
- Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment
