ABOUT GRAND HARBOUR MARINA
Grand Harbour Marina is a premier waterfront destination located in Lagoon City, Brechin, Ontario — on the beautiful east shore of Lake Simcoe. Under new ownership and management, we are transforming this iconic marina into a destination defined by elevated service, curated amenities, and a genuine passion for the boating lifestyle.
The Harbour Shop at Grand Harbour Marina is the heart of the guest experience on land — a welcoming, well-stocked retail space where boaters, members, and visitors can find everything they need for a great day on the water. We’re looking for a warm, organized, and guest-focused individual to bring it to life.
THE ROLE
As a Harbour Shop Host, you are the face of Grand Harbour Marina on shore. You’ll manage the day-to-day operations of our retail shop — welcoming guests, processing sales, managing inventory, and curating an experience that reflects the Grand Harbour brand from the moment someone walks through the door.
This is much more than a retail role. The Harbour Shop Host is a central hub for guest communication, cross-departmental coordination, and marina hospitality. From assisting a boater finding the right part to monitoring the VHF radio, hailing incoming vessels, and coordinating across teams — you’ll be a trusted, knowledgeable presence at the very heart of our operation.
Due to the sale of alcohol at the Harbour Shop, all applicants must be 18 years of age or older.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Retail Operations & Sales
Manage the day-to-day operation of the Harbour Shop, ensuring it is always stocked, organized, clean, and visually appealing
- Warmly greet and assist all guests, members, and visitors — providing knowledgeable, friendly service across all product categories
- Accurately process all sales transactions through the marina POS system, handling cash, debit, and credit payments with precision
- Reconcile daily sales, balance cash drawers, and submit accurate end-of-day reports to management
- Manage and maintain product displays, shelving, and signage to a high visual standard that reflects the Grand Harbour brand
- Responsibly sell alcohol and age-restricted products in full compliance with Ontario liquor laws and marina policies — must be 18+
Inventory & Merchandise Management
- Conduct regular inventory counts and maintain accurate stock records within the POS and inventory management system
- Monitor inventory levels proactively and communicate replenishment needs to management before items run out
- Receive, inspect, and organize incoming merchandise and supply orders — checking quantities and quality against purchase orders
- Rotate perishable stock including food, beverages, and confectionery correctly to minimize waste
- Assist with seasonal product selection, merchandising updates, and the introduction of new product lines as directed
- Maintain organized back-of-house storage areas, stock rooms, and supply spaces
Guest Experience & Hospitality Coordination
- Serve as a central point of contact for guest needs, questions, and requests — delivering service that reflects the Grand Harbour standard
- Coordinate with other marina departments — including dockhand, fuel dock, and operations teams — to fulfill guest service requests and ensure a seamless experience
- Assist with the coordination of marina hospitality offerings, programs, and member events as directed
- Conduct dockside deliveries of shop items, ice, beverages, and provisions to vessels as requested
- Communicate clearly and professionally with guests and team members across all departments
- Anticipate guest needs and take initiative to enhance the overall marina experience beyond the walls of the shop
Administration & POS Management
- Maintain accurate records of all shop transactions, daily sales summaries, and inventory movements
- Assist with general administrative tasks as required, including filing, communications, and record keeping
- Support the preparation of sales reports, inventory summaries, and other operational documentation for management
- Manage shop opening and closing procedures accurately and consistently each shift
- Back up the Fuel Dock Host during periods of high demand or staff absence as directed by the Harbour Master or Operations Manager
Marine VHF Radio Monitoring & Communications
- Monitor the marina’s marine VHF radio continuously throughout each shift, maintaining a listening watch on Channel 16 (the international distress, safety, and calling channel) at all times
- Hail incoming and transient vessels by radio to welcome them to Grand Harbour Marina, provide slip or dock assignments, and offer dockside assistance
- Respond promptly and professionally to all incoming radio communications from boaters, relaying information to the appropriate team member or department as needed
- Listen attentively for distress calls, urgency signals, and safety broadcasts — follow established emergency response protocols immediately and notify the Harbour Master without delay
- Relay weather alerts, navigational notices, and any relevant safety information to guests and team members in a timely manner
- Maintain a clear, professional radio presence that reflects the Grand Harbour Marina brand and instills confidence in our boating guests
- Log all significant radio communications, vessel arrivals, and any distress or safety incidents in the marina communications record
Boat Ramp Access & Monitoring
- Monitor and manage access to the Grand Harbour Marina boat ramp, ensuring it is used safely, efficiently, and in accordance with marina policies and posted rules
- Greet boaters using the ramp, collect applicable launch fees, and accurately process payments through the marina POS system
- Direct boat ramp traffic during busy periods to ensure a safe, orderly, and courteous experience for all users
- Ensure the ramp area, dock approach, and surrounding zones remain clear of obstructions, hazards, and unattended vehicles or trailers
- Communicate ramp availability, wait times, and any access restrictions to boaters and team members as needed
- Report any ramp damage, safety hazards, unauthorized use, or maintenance concerns to the Harbour Master or Operations Manager promptly
- Assist first-time or inexperienced boaters with launch and retrieval procedures in a patient and helpful manner
- Maintain a log of daily ramp usage, fees collected, and any incidents or concerns for management review
Shop Presentation & Safety
- Maintain the Harbour Shop in a clean, organized, and welcoming condition throughout every shift
- Ensure all products are correctly priced, labelled, and displayed at all times
- Adhere to all food safety, WHMIS, and workplace health and safety standards applicable to the role
- Report any facility, safety, or maintenance concerns to the Operations team promptly

- Reliable, punctual, and professional in both appearance and approach
