About This Role
AXM Contracting is a custom home builder serving the Columbia Valley — Invermere, Panorama, Fairmont Hot Springs, and Radium. We're a small, experienced crew with a strong reputation for quality builds, honest process, and real transparency with our clients.
We're growing and looking for a journeyman carpenter to join us full-time. You'll be a skilled tradesman working alongside our Lead Carpenter, apprentice, and labourer on residential builds from foundation to finish. Your experience and expertise will elevate the quality of our work, and when needed, you'll take the lead on smaller projects like deck builds.
We're booked two years out. This is stable work in one of the best places in BC to live — and we build it that way intentionally, including time in the winter for the crew to travel and recharge.
What You'll Be Doing
Skilled carpentry across all phases (primary focus)
- Foundation and superstructure work — framing, floor systems, wall framing, roof systems, custom timber framing
- Exterior finishing — cladding, siding, trim, windows, doors, flashing, decks, and railings
- Interior finishing — trim, casing, baseboards, and final details
- Reading construction drawings and adapting to site conditions with minimal direction
Working with the crew
- Collaborating with the Lead Carpenter and contributing to daily task targets
- Supporting apprentice development through example and mentorship
- Communicating clearly about progress, challenges, and material needs
- Maintaining safe, organized, and clean work environments
- Being a reliable, skilled presence on site — the kind of carpenter others want to work with
Occasional project leadership
- Periodically leading smaller side jobs — deck builds, window swaps, or standalone projects
- Managing these projects independently when the crew splits
- Ensuring quality and schedule adherence on secondary projects.
What We're Looking For
Required
- Red Seal Carpenter certification (journeyman ticket), with minimum 5 years of recent experience — OR — minimum 10 years of hands-on residential construction experience
- Proven ability across multiple phases — framing, exterior, and finishing work
- Strong understanding of construction drawings and building code
- Ability to work effectively within a crew and take clear direction
- Reliable vehicle and valid BC Class 5 driver's licence
- Positive attitude and genuine commitment to quality workmanship
Nice to have
- Custom residential or timber frame experience
- Exterior cladding and envelope system expertise
- Experience leading small crews or single projects
- Familiarity with the Columbia Valley region
Compensation & What We Offer
- $35 – $38/hour, commensurate with ticket status and experience
- Full-time permanent position, 40 hours per week during active build seasons
- Overtime paid in accordance with the BC Employment Standards Act
- Winter flexibility — it's part of our culture to make time off for travel and leisure in the slower season, and we work with each person individually to find a schedule that fits both the project and their life
- Consistent work — we're booked two years out, so there's no shortage of it
- A small crew where you actually know everyone and communication is clear
- Work on quality custom homes across the Columbia Valley — great builds in a great place to live
Pay: $35.00-$38.00 per hour
Work Location: In person
