Direct Support Worker / Youth Worker

On Call (Part-Time / Full-Time Opportunities)
Freedom Support Services is currently recruiting experienced Direct Support Workers and Youth Workers to support residential, shelter, detention, and community-based programs serving at-risk youth and vulnerable adults.
Background
Candidates may come from the following educational backgrounds:
- Child and Youth Worker (CYW)
- Developmental Service Worker (DSW)
- Social Service Worker (SSW)
- Psychology
- Criminology
- Corrections
- Mental Health & Addictions
- Related Human Services programs
Minimum Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of experience supporting vulnerable or at-risk populations
- Experience working with individuals experiencing:
- Mental health challenges
- Behavioural concerns
- Developmental disabilities
- Addictions
- Homelessness
- Crisis situations
- Knowledge of trauma-informed care and de-escalation techniques
- Strong documentation and report-writing skills
- Ability to work independently and within multidisciplinary teams
- Valid Standard First Aid & CPR-C
- Current Broad Record Check
- Updated immunization records
- Valid Ontario G or G2 licence considered an asset
Preferred Certifications
The following certifications are considered strong assets:
- UMAB
- ASIST
- CPI
- Suicide Intervention Training
- Behaviour Management Training
Key Responsibilities
- Support clients in residential, shelter, and community environments
- Maintain a safe and supportive environment
- Complete incident reports and daily documentation
- Support individualized care and safety plans
- Assist with daily living activities and life-skills support
- Work collaboratively with case managers and program staff
- Respond appropriately to crisis and high-risk situations
Additional Information
- On-Call ( part-time / full-time shifts available)
- Day, evening, overnight, and weekend shifts may be required
- Hourly Rate: Starting from $23.50/hour
- Work locations vary across Oshawa and Peterborough
