Violence is Preventable facilitator job description:
The Violence Prevention Program focuses on non-clinical and primary prevention of interpersonal violence (child abuse, dating violence, domestic violence, workplace violence, sexual assault).
The VIP program offers awareness presentations to educate educators, parents and other adults about the risks to children caused by exposure to domestic violence; violence prevention presentations that are designed for classrooms to enable children to learn about domestic violence, unhealthy vs. healthy relationships, and to develop communication skills and self-esteem; and group interventions that consist of multi-week psycho-educational group meetings that offer the support needed to cope with the impact that domestic violence has had on the lives of participants.
This program is offered in partnership with local schools in SD53, to children aged 3-18, this is a curriculum-based program delivered by a VIP Facilitator who is also a counsellor. This is a 10 hour per week program and runs during the school year. Duties include facilitating the VIP program in elementary and high schools.
Qualifications:
· A Bachelor’s Degree in a related post-secondary undergraduate program, or a diploma and extensive work-related experience
· Demonstrated knowledge of a feminist-based perspective
· Knowledge of appropriate community resources
· A valid BC Driver’s License
· Satisfactory Criminal Record Check
· Demonstrated ability to work with diverse clientele
· Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as a team
· Excellent interpersonal communication
· Excellent computer skills
