The Opportunity
Fusion West is growing, and with that growth comes an increasing demand for customized products, design modifications, and innovative solutions for customers across Western Canada.
As a Mechanical Engineering Technologist, you'll work directly alongside an experienced industry professional, helping transform customer requirements into practical, manufacturable solutions. You'll collaborate with sales, production, and leadership teams while gaining hands-on exposure to design, manufacturing, purchasing, and operational processes.

Key Responsibilities
As a Mechanical Engineering Technologist, you will work collaboratively and are responsible for:
1. Design & Product Development
- Modify and update existing product designs to meet customer-specific requirements.
- Create and revise 3D models and production drawings using Autodesk Inventor.
- Prepare customer approval drawings and detailed shop drawings for manufacturing.
- Support sales with custom product solutions, estimates, and technical information.
- Maintain current drawing files and manage design revisions.
- Collaborate with production teams to improve manufacturability and product performance.
- Assist with the development of new products and design enhancements.
2. Manufacturing & Production Support
- Work closely with production personnel to ensure drawings are accurate and practical.
- Support CNC plasma cutting, forming, welding, and fabrication processes.
- Assist with CNC programming and file preparation.
- Help identify opportunities to simplify assemblies and improve production efficiency.
- Troubleshoot manufacturing challenges and recommend practical solutions.
3. ERP, Documentation & Data Management
- Maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs), routers, and item data within Fusion West’s systems
- Enter new products and revisions into ERP systems.
- Manage product documentation and engineering records.
- Maintain accurate pricing, revision histories, and production data.
4. Material Planning & Purchasing Support
- Prepare material take-offs and production forecasts.
- Assist with inventory management and material planning activities.
- Support vendor communications and purchasing activities.
- Help ensure adequate inventory levels for production requirements.
- Participate in inventory counts and inventory control processes.
5. Cross-Functional Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
- Partner with sales, production, and management teams to deliver customer-focused solutions.
- Support special projects and operational improvement initiatives.
- Contribute ideas that improve efficiency, quality, and overall business performance.
- Build strong working relationships throughout the organization.
- Adapt quickly to shifting priorities and multiple ongoing projects.
Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you will bring:
The Essentials (Hard Skills):
- Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology or a related discipline.
- Approximately 2+ years of relevant industry experience.
- Experience using CAD software such as Autodesk Inventor, SolidWorks, Fusion 360, AutoCAD, or similar platforms.
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office and Excel.
- Ability to interpret and create technical drawings and manufacturing documentation.
- Understanding of mechanical design principles and manufacturing processes.
- Eligibility to work in Canada.

- Strong problem-solving abilities and mechanical aptitude.
- Ability to generate practical solutions rather than simply follow existing designs.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Comfortable working with production staff, sales personnel, suppliers, and management.
