Gas Fireplace Service Technician
Full-time, Part-time, or Seasonal | Permanent Position | Victoria, BC
We're Pacific Fireplaces – Heating & Cooling, a well-established, locally owned company that's been serving Greater Victoria for over 25 years. We specialize in ductless heat pumps, and gas, wood, and electric fireplaces.
We're looking for someone who knows how to work independently, understands gas systems and combustion, and takes pride in clean, safe, code-compliant work. If you're confident troubleshooting unfamiliar fireplaces, comfortable navigating manuals and wiring diagrams when needed, and able to explain safety concerns to a customer without making it awkward — you might be a good fit.
We take the technical side of this trade seriously, and we value people who are reliable, curious, and technically sharp — and who don't need micromanaging to do excellent work.
What You'll Be Doing
- Service and repair a wide range of gas fireplaces (IPI and standing pilot)
- Ensure all work meets or exceeds code requirements
- Troubleshoot control systems, electronics, venting, and gas supply issues
- Use an iPhone-based field service system to view schedule, invoice customers, document work, and order parts
- Communicate clearly with clients, especially regarding safety or system concerns
- Support and lead apprentices when needed
- Perform first fires and commissioning on new installs
What We're Looking For
- Current A, B, or Gas Service Technician qualification (C) (required)
- Solid understanding of gas appliances and how they actually work
- Confidence interpreting manuals, wiring diagrams, and technical docs
- Strong attention to detail and safety
- Clean and presentable with a respectful, professional attitude in customers' homes
- Able to work solo, but willing to collaborate when needed
- Comfortable with learning new software and digital tools
- Valid BC driver's license in good standing
Nice to Have:
- 2+ years of experience servicing gas fireplaces or similar appliances
- Familiarity with major brands and models
- Electrical/electronics knowledge (especially low-voltage controls)
- Ductless heat pump experience (not required, but a useful bonus)

We also value work-life balance. There's no emergency or night shifts. Saturdays are optional during heating season (September–December) for those who want extra hours, but not required. Most of our work is indoors, in finished homes, which makes for steadier, less physically demanding work compared to typical HVAC service.

- Seasonal: full hours September–December, reduced availability in spring/summer (by mutual agreement).
