Instrumentation & Controls Technician
Location: Kamloops BC
Schedule: Monday–Friday, regional day travel
Pay range: $30.00–$40.00 per hour, based on experience and certification
Cool Creek Energy is a growing petroleum equipment service company specializing in installation, maintenance, and optimization of fuel handling and process systems. We are looking for an experienced Instrumentation & Controls Technician who can keep our customers’ operations running safely and reliably with a strong focus on uptime.
You’ll be working independently in the field, Monday to Friday, servicing regional client. Cool Creek Energy supplies a fully equipped work vehicle, specialized tools, and support from a knowledgeable technical team. This role includes paid overtime and participation in a paid on‑call rotation.
Key Responsibilities
· Troubleshoot, repair, calibrate, and maintain instrumentation and control systems on petroleum equipment (e.g., pumps, level/flow/pressure transmitters, tank gauging, PLC/I/O, control valves, analyzers).
· Perform scheduled preventive maintenance and inspections to maximize equipment uptime and reliability.
· Diagnose electrical and control issues (24 VDC to 600 VAC) and implement effective corrective actions.
· Commission and start up new or upgraded systems, including loop checks, functional testing, and documentation.
· Configure and program controllers, PLCs, HMIs, and associated communication networks where required.
· Complete accurate service reports, calibration records, and safety documentation.
· Communicate clearly with customers, provide status updates, and identify opportunities to improve system performance.
· Work safely and in compliance with customer and regulatory requirements at fuel terminals, cardlocks, bulk plants, and related facilities.
· Participate in an on‑call rotation to respond to urgent service requests, with on‑call pay and paid OT for callouts.
Qualifications
· Minimum 3rd Year Instrumentation & Control Technician apprentice or Red Seal / Journeyperson Instrumentation & Control Technician.
· Experience in industrial, oil & gas, or petroleum equipment environments (fuel terminals, service stations, bulk plants, loading racks, etc.) strongly preferred.
· Industrial instrumentation (pressure, level, temperature, flow, analytical).
· Control systems (PLC/HMI, DCS, or SCADA) and industrial communication protocols.
· Electrical fundamentals, including reading and updating wiring diagrams and panel layouts.
· Proven ability to work independently in the field with minimal supervision, manage your schedule, and prioritize multiple service calls.
· Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with a focus on maximizing uptime and getting systems safely back online.
· Comfortable working outdoors and at industrial sites, including around fuel handling equipment.
· Valid Class 5 driver’s licence with clean abstract (required).
· Ability to meet customer site requirements (e.g., drug & alcohol, background checks, safety orientations).
Assets (not mandatory):
· Experience servicing petroleum dispensing and storage systems (tank gauging, cardlock systems, dispensers, automated controls).
· Confined space, Fall Protection, First Aid, H2S, CSTS, or other relevant safety tickets.
· Experience with calibration standards, field communicators, and test equipment.
· Familiarity with CMMS or digital service reporting tools (tablets, mobile apps).
