About the Job:
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director provides overall leadership, vision, and strategic direction for the FSPCA. This role is responsible for managing the organization’s operations, administration, finances, fundraising efforts, community outreach and public relations.
This position would be of interest to a seasoned individual with extensive management and Board experience and a passion for animal welfare. Someone who is looking for a change and to apply their experience to serve and lead a not-for-profit organization that does critical work to help animals in need.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership and Strategy
· In collaboration with the Board of Directors, develop and implement strategic plans, policies, and programs that align with the organization’s mission, vision, and goals.
· Provide visionary and operational leadership for the organization.
· Represent the organization in the public and media and liaise with stakeholders and other interested parties.
· Accountability and management of financial operations.
Operations Management
· Ensure the efficient and effective day-to-day operations of the FSPCA, including animal care, adoption services, administration, program management, and community outreach.
· Oversee the recruitment, hiring, training, and development of staff, fostering a positive and collaborative work environment.
· Conduct annual performance evaluations of employees that report directly to the ED.
· Manage the service agreements with the City of Fredericton and with the NBSPCA.
- Ensure all organizational policies and procedures are up to date and adhered to by staff and volunteers.
· Ensure policy compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements.
Fundraising and Financial Management
· In collaboration with the Finance Committee, develop and manage the annual budget and ensure financial stability.
· Develop and execute a comprehensive fundraising strategy to support the FSPCA’s programs and operations.
· Cultivate relationships with donors, sponsors and grant-making organizations to secure financial support.
· Lead fundraising initiatives and special events to secure financial support.
· Identify and pursue grant opportunities, ensuring compliance with grant requirements and successful grant administration.
Public Relations and External Relations
· Serve as the primary spokesperson for the FSPCA, promoting its mission and programs to the media, government and community.
· Represent the organization to stakeholders, including donors, government agencies, and the public.
· Develop partnerships with other organizations and stakeholders.
· Oversee the development and implementation of community education and outreach programs to promote animal welfare and responsible pet ownership
Board Relations
· Provide timely, relevant, and accurate information to the Board regarding operations, human resources and the organization’s strategic goals/objectives, enabling informed decision making.
· Attend and actively participate in all Board meetings and committee meetings as required.
· Work closely with the Board to identify and recruit new Board members who can contribute to the FSPCA’s mission and goals.
Qualifications
Education
· Certificate, Diploma, or bachelor's degree in Non-profit Management, Business Administration, Animal Science or a related field or a combination of education and demonstrable experience.
· Minimum of 5 years of senior management experience, preferably in a non-profit organization.
· Experience reporting to a Board of Directors or serving as a member of a Board of Directors.
· Strong financial management, budgeting, and fundraising skills.
· Strong grant-writing abilities.
· Excellent Interpersonal communication skills.
· Strong leadership and organizational skills. Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate staff and volunteers.
· Passion for/Commitment to animal welfare and the mission of the FSPCA.
· Knowledge of animal welfare regulations and best practices.
· Ability to develop and implement strategic plans.
· Self-directed, takes initiative, creative and adaptable; able to work in a team and independently.
· Possesses a current Criminal Record Check including Vulnerable Sector Check.
· Experience in an office environment and using office technology.
· Possess a valid driver’s license.
Work Environment
This is mostly an in-office position. However, some travel may be required to attend meetings with stakeholders, donors, etc. Hours are Monday through Friday 8:15 am to 4:30 pm. Some weekend and night work may be required.
Salary
Compensation range is $45,000 to $55,000 depending on relevant experience. This is based on a 36.25-hour work week.
