Job Locations: Brandon, Virden, Dauphin
ROLE:
The Utility Locator plays an integral role in marking underground utilities and meeting our high-quality standards. They will conduct locating services for residential and commercial customers within a specified geographical area.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Utility Locator is at all times responsible for ensuring the Health & Safety of themselves and customers.
Responsible for conducting locate requests/tickets as required in a timely manner
Review & verify utility owned infrastructure records regarding excavation locations, and construction plans to determine the location of the infrastructure
Operate various electromagnetic induction locating equipment including receiver and transmitters designed to assist in the locating and verifying of underground utilities
Create digital locate sketches through computer applications
Mark lines using coloured flags and/or paint that are specified for each utility
Consult with contractors, developers, builders, local authorities, and construction companies regarding locations of underground utilities
Responsible for conducting locates for emergencies, priorities, and standard requests within the specified time frame
Prepare various reports and documentation verifying marked utilities
Maintain company inventory and safe storage of equipment within Company vehicle
Complete all locates to MPLocates standards and schedules
Other duties as required
REQUIREMENTS:
- Valid class 5 driver’s license with clean driver’s abstract
- Ability to work outdoors and independently throughout the year
- Previous experience in locating, construction, landscaping, or surveying utilities is an asset
- Telecommunications experience with AutoCAD, GIS, and other utility design and drafting software is an asset
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Excellent problem-solving skills and customer service skills with the ability to interact with clients, colleagues, and the public
- Self-starter with an ability to perform well under pressure and with minimal supervision
- Intermediate computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams)
- Ability to distinguish colours for marked utilities
- Confined Space Entry training an asset
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
Travel is required as projects will be located throughout geographic region (Company vehicle and gas card will be provided).
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Must be able to perform the physical demands of the position’s work tasks. This includes but not limited to, movement of equipment and/or materials; ability to carry equipment (transmitter and receiver) up to 20 lbs. and the ability to stand or walk for extended periods of time.
Pay: $18.00-$25.00 per hour
