About the Role :
This role focuses on configuring and testing autopilot hardware, sensors, and features for fixed-wing and VTOL drones. It involves testing and tuning aircraft through flight testing, which will be conducted up to several times per week. Flight testing requires travelling to the flying field (a 45-minute drive).
Responsibilities::
- Analyzing, configuring, and testing autopilot configurations and features
- Configuring, integrating, and ground-testing sensors and systems
- Planning and conducting flight testing of fixed-wing and VTOL drones
- Travelling regularly to the flying field (year-round)
- Analyzing flight logs to identify areas for performance improvement
- Maintaining the drones and equipment needed to operate
- Documenting tests and procedures, and producing reports summarizing findings
- Complying with regulations and safety protocols
What You Bring:Required Qualifications:
- Bachelors or Masters degree in Aerospace Engineering, or a related field
- 3–5 years of professional experience in drone autopilot integration, drone systems integration, drone flight testing, or drone development, including:
- • Common ground control station software
- Software-in-the-loop (SITL) simulation
- Flight test planning, execution, log analysis, and troubleshooting
- Fixed-wing drone integration and performance tuning
- Experience with open-source autopilot ecosystems (such as ArduPilot, PX4, or similar), including technical documentation, software architecture and community resources
- Detail-oriented, safety-minded, and capable of balancing planning, execution, analysis, and documentation in both development and field environments
- Transport Canada Pilot Certificate – Basic Operations
- Comfortable working in an outdoor environment in both Canadian winter and summer climates
- Capable of performing physical labour, including lifting/pushing/pulling up to 50lbs
- A valid driver's license
- English language skills (both oral and written)
Additional Qualifications:
- Transport Canada Pilot Certificate – Advanced Operations or Level 1 Complex Operations
- Experience with:
- • Drone flight controls and system identification
- VTOL and multirotor drone development
- CAN-based peripherals
- C++ programming, Lua scripting, and autopilot software customization
- Operating fixed-wing drones in both manual and autopilot-controlled flight modes
- Development of standard operating procedures, checklists, and emergency procedures
Work Model:
- Location: Primarily onsite. You are expected to be in the shop or at the flying field most days. Limited remote flexibility may be available up to approximately 1 day per week when appropriate.

- Reporting to: Engineering Lead
- Travel: Must be willing to travel occasionally, up to approximately 4 weeks per year
Compensation and Benefits:
- Salary: $70,000 - $80,000
