The Department of Infrastructure (INF) provides high quality services to the public and Government of the Northwest Territories’ (GNWT) departments, boards and agencies including the planning, design, construction, acquisition, operation and maintenance of public transportation infrastructure and the buildings, works and equipment required for the GNWT to deliver its programs and services. INF makes essential petroleum products available for sale to the public where these products are not provided by the private sector, and promotes the development and increased use of energy efficient technologies. INF also regulates electrical and mechanical safety services and licenses individuals and vehicles operating in the territory.

This position assists in the maintenance of plumbing and heating equipment to GNWT buildings to ensure safe and efficient operation through testing and installation of equipment on boilers, furnaces and heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems. This position assists in the review of work completed by contractors to ensure compliance with plans, specifications and governing codes.
All work is performed under the direction of a qualified Journeyman Plumber/Oil Burner Mechanic (OBM).
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability to maintain accurate records.
Ability and willingness to keep up-to-date with technology.
Ability to use a computer.
Ability to attend Trade Instruction Courses in Fort Smith or Alberta for at least one 8 week period each year.
Successful completion of a Trades Entrance exam.
Typically, the above qualifications would be attained by:
Completion of English 10, Math 10 or 13, pure math 10 or Applied Math 10, Science Grade 10 OR the equivalent; related experience is an asset.
Continued employment as an apprentice is conditional upon the successful completion of the required hours of experience, coursework and exam for each level in the apprenticeship program.
