LICENSED PARALEGAL – SMALL CLAIMS LITIGATION
Independent Contractor | Remote / Hybrid (Ontario)
$25.00–$35.00 per Hour Based on Experience
Rocks Legal Services is seeking an experienced, litigation-focused Licensed Paralegal to assist with contested Small Claims Court matters across Ontario.
This opportunity is ideal for an independent contractor looking to expand their workload and take carriage of meaningful litigation files without the burden of managing an entire practice.
We are specifically seeking someone who enjoys litigation, procedure, drafting, motions, settlement conferences, trial preparation, and advocacy.
This is not an entry-level or mentorship position. Applicants must be comfortable managing files with minimal supervision and possess strong Ontario Small Claims Court experience.

Rocks Legal Services is a growing Ontario legal services practice focused on practical, client-centered representation. As the firm continues to expand, we are restructuring to allow greater focus on firm operations, family law services, collections/enforcement, and client development while delegating contested litigation files to dedicated litigation professionals.
ABOUT THE ROLE
The successful candidate may assist with and/or independently manage:
- Plaintiff's Claims, Defences, Defendant's Claims, Replies, and Motions;
- Settlement Conference Briefs, Hearing Briefs, Trial Briefs, and supporting materials;
- Legal research and case law review;
- Evidence review and litigation risk assessment;
- Procedural strategy and deadline management;
- Settlement negotiations and resolution discussions;
- Communications with clients, opposing counsel, and court staff;
- Hearings, settlement conferences, motions, assessments, examinations, and trials (remote or in person where required);
- Enforcement proceedings, garnishments, examinations, and collection matters;
- File management within Clio and firm systems.
TYPES OF FILES
Files may include:
- Construction disputes;
- Breach of contract claims;
- Debt recovery matters;
- Commercial disputes;
- Consumer disputes;
- Service contract claims;
- Collection and enforcement proceedings;
- Settlement conferences;
- Motions and procedural disputes;
- Trial preparation and attendance.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Licensed Paralegal in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario;
- Minimum 2 years of Ontario Small Claims Court experience;
- Strong drafting, legal writing, and litigation skills;
- Ability to independently manage files from intake through judgment;
- Strong understanding of Small Claims Court procedure and limitation periods;
- Professional and client-focused communication skills;
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision;
- Reliable transportation and willingness to attend court when required;
- Access to a computer, internet connection, and telephone suitable for remote work.
ASSETS (PREFERRED BUT NOT REQUIRED)
- Enforcement and garnishment experience;
- Landlord and Tenant Board experience;
- Experience managing files from intake through judgment;
- Bilingual (English and another language);
- Experience using Clio or similar practice-management software.

COMPENSATION
- Independent Contractor Position;
- $25.00–$35.00 per hour based on experience, litigation background, and ability to independently manage files;
- Flexible workload aligned with your availability;
- Remote work with occasional court attendance where required;
