Job Summary
The Municipal Utilities Worker is responsible for maintaining and operating essential sewer and water infrastructure in rural communities. The ideal candidate will possess mechanical knowledge and experience with heavy equipment, tools, and safety procedures to ensure the reliable delivery of municipal services. This position offers an opportunity to work outdoors in a dynamic environment, supporting the community’s infrastructure needs.

- Water systems and wells
- Sewer systems and lift stations
- Pumps and pumping equipment
- Reservoirs and lagoons
- Piping systems and infrastructure projects
- Treatment facilities and related infrastructure
Responsibilities
- Operate heavy equipment including Vac Trucks, backhoes, bucket trucks, excavators, and rigging tools to perform maintenance and repair tasks.
- Conduct routine inspections and troubleshooting of Sewage lift stations, wells, pumps and treatment plants
- Use hand tools and power tools to install, repair, or replace pipes, wiring, valves, and other infrastructure components.
- Perform excavation work safely and efficiently while adhering to safety protocols.
- Assist with welding tasks for pipe repairs or structural modifications as needed.
- Manage equipment such as crane trucks, trailers, backhoes, etc.
- Maintain detailed records of work performed and materials used during daily operations.
- Ensure all work complies with safety standards and municipal regulations.
Requirements
- Mechanical knowledge with hands-on experience in operating heavy equipment such as backhoes, excavators, and other machinery.
- Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, and rigging techniques.
- Knowledge of safety procedures related to excavation, electrical work, and equipment operation.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions while maintaining safety standards.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot mechanical or electrical issues efficiently. This role is integral to maintaining the community’s vital utilities infrastructure and offers opportunities for skill development in various technical areas related to municipal services.
- Ability to work on the road Monday to Friday as required.
Assets
- journeyperson certificate in a designated trade
- Class 3A licence or higher
- Experience operationg hydrovac
- Experience with rural sewer and water infrastructure.
Pay: $35.00-$45.00 per hour
