The Mechanical Designers work on a project from the initial brief, through the design and development stage, to the testing of one or more prototypes, right through to final manufacture and implementation as per customer specifications.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and create mechanical designs in 3D SolidWorks.
- Prepare general assembly and parts detail drawings for fabrication.
- Create specifications, work instructions, BOM’s and other engineering materials as required to adequately meet customer requirements
- Custom design of new metal detector and conveyor as per customer’s requirements in SAP
- Check drawings for accuracy, material selection, proper machining techniques, and finishes
- Discuss and solve complex problems with manufacturing departments, sub-contractors, suppliers and customers
- Ensure product can be manufactured again reliably and will perform consistently in specified operating environments
- Other duties as assigned
Academic/Educational Requirements:
- College Diploma in Mechanical Design or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
Required Skills/Experience:
- Minimum of 3 years working experience in mechanical design in a manufacturing environment.
- Proficient in the use of Solidworks and AutoCad.
- DriveWorks experience an asset.
- Excellent communication, problem solving, decision making, team building and people skills.
- Ability to work independently and assume responsibility for managing assigned tasks and projects.
- Ability to work under tight time restrictions and meet deadlines.
- Experience with electro-mechanical systems design & testing procedures.
- Knowledge of programming would be an asset.
- PDM experience an asset.
- Experience working with SAP an asset.
