Overview
The Estimator/Project Manager position is designed to take a potential project from sales lead to submitted quote and responsible for the overall implementation, coordination, execution, cost control, and completion of specific projects ensuring consistency with company strategy, commitments, and goals. The Project Manager/Estimator will be supporting the business and providing value to the organization by identifying and driving procurement activities for the company. This position will be processing purchasing transactions for equipment, materials, supplies, goods, services, and liaison between workers, customers, and suppliers to facilitate the process of orders or quotes.
Responsibilities & Duties
- Reviews proposal specifications and drawings to determine the scope of work
- Understands the labor requirements of the project; obtain labor rates and appropriate “add-ons” (e.g. labor burdens, small tools, insurances, and bonding) to be used in preliminary pricing of quantities
- Inputs project scope change estimates
- Prepares general & special conditions cost estimate
- Reviews bonding and insurance requirements under the direction of the Operations Manager
- Assists the Operations Manager, delivers proposal before specified closing time, and maintains confidentiality of subcontractor/supplier bid pricing
- Develop and determine all standards to perform inspection and tests on all procedures and oversee all testing methods and maintain high standards of quality for all processes
- Perform risk management to minimize project risks
- Plan and schedule project timelines
- Ensure resource availability and allocation
- Monitor an efficient system and record for all project activities and analyze all processes to ensure all work according to quality requirements
- Ensure that all projects are delivered on-time, within scope and within budget
- Supervise effective implementation of all test and inspection schedule and ensure adherence to all procedures and coordinate with various teams to perform quality audits on processes
- Analyze all products and non-conformance processes and evaluate all documents to ensure maintenance of optimal quality and prepare monthly reports to evaluate performance
- Manage all work methods and maintain knowledge on all quality assurance standards and monitor continuous application for all quality assurance processes and recommend corrective actions for all processes
- Negotiate terms of agreements, draft contracts and obtain permits and licenses
- Develops and maintains relationships with key subcontractors and suppliers to ensure competitive pricing
- Prepares quantity take off, labor, material and equipment needs and costs based on drawings and specifications
- Reviews drawings, addendums, specifications and complete tender packages to ensure all requirements are adhered to during bid process
- Ability to quickly analyze, compare and interpret detailed but sometimes poorly defined drawings; and be able to make accurate judgments based on such information
- Summarize quantities, prepare spreadsheets for alternate and separate pieces as required for tenders
- Develops costs estimates for material, shop labor, equipment and subcontracted items and utilize your ability and experience to conceptualize portions of estimates
- Prepare preliminary schedules
- Ordering and supplying all material purchasing for projects on a daily basis
- Price out bill of materials for the shop
- Track and update all purchases
- Manage cash flow
- Interprets project drawings and specifications, analyzes blueprints, specifications, proposals and other documentation
- Addresses addendums, change orders, etc.
- Performs customer follow-up of proposals
- Acts as Planner on scope projects, including directing all estimating efforts and interacting with key leadership throughout organization.
Qualifications & Experience
- Post-secondary degree/diploma
- Microsoft project, Microsoft Office, Estimating Software (Strumis)
- 5 to 10 years of experience in the structural steel industry

Pay: $35.00-$45.00 per hour
