Colio Estate Winery is looking for a passionate and motived individual to join the winemaking team in beautiful Lake Erie North Shore.
A bit of history…When we first opened our doors in 1980, we were recipients of the first winery license in the region since prohibition.
Today, our multi-award-winning picturesque winery in Harrow in the heart of what is now known as Essex/Pelee Island Coast Wine Country, boasts over three million litres of cooperage and produces over 400,000 cases per year.
JOB SUMMARY
Play a vital, hands-on role in wine production, performing day-to-day operations from grape harvest to bottling
KEY SKILLS
- Relevant experience in a wine production or manufacturing environment is considered an asset
- Mechanical aptitude and confidence in using machinery
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize tasks efficiently
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work safely with co-workers
- Perform physical tasks such as standing, climbing, bending, and walking
- Attention to detail is critical
- Ability to work 12 hour shifts, rotating between day and night shifts for the duration of harvest
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITES
- Filter Operation: Crossflow, pad filter, high solids filter
- Cleaning and sterilizing winery equipment and tanks
- Transferring, racking, blending wine/juice
- Carrying out various additions/inoculations
- Barrel operations: filling, racking, topping, cleaning
- Pump-overs, punch downs, red press outs
- Maintain a safe, clean and organized cellar
Eligibility Requirements:
· Ability to work extended hours when required, particularly during the annual harvest and Icewine harvest periods which will include evenings/nights/weekends
· Able to lift 25kg and able to work at heights
Interested candidates should possess;
- Completion or working towards a post-secondary education in winemaking/oenology or viticulture or equivalent education.
- Forklift operators permit with one (1) year experience preferably in a production environment an asset but will be provided.
- Knowledge of Ontario Health and Safety Act, Regulation 833 Control of Exposure to Biological or Chemical Agents, Regulation 851, Industrial Establishment, WHIMIS and WSIB regulations and guidelines.
- Ability to work in various conditions and flexible work schedule ( day, afternoon and weekend shift.
- Capable of lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Confined space training an asset but will be provided.
- WHMIS training is an asset but will be provided.
- Computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel and outlook.
- A valid Ontario driver’s license.
