Freshwater Maintenance Technician – Gold River Hatchery $24-$29
Cermaq Seafood BC Ltd. is seeking to hire a dedicated full-time, permanent, Maintenance Technician who is experienced and motivated to support our Freshwater Team in Gold River, BC. Reporting to the Hatchery Assistant Managers, the Maintenance Technician plays a key role in working within our maintenance team, ensuring the smooth operation and upkeep of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems and equipment at our freshwater and broodstock facilities. The ideal candidate will be eager to start and finish new projects and will play a key role in working with projects on site.

Key Responsibilities:

Perform day to day maintenance and upkeep of freshwater productions facility equipment, including boilers, wells, pumps, generators, oxygen and propane bulk tanks, UV filtrations systems, heat exchangers, ozone generators, drum filters, electrical motors and gas engines

Monitor, maintain and troubleshoot facility systems, including water systems, oxygen systems, septic systems, CO2 pumps and blowers and SCADA monitoring systems

Diagnose and repair issues related to wells, pumps, piping systems, feeders and feeder boxes and flow management

Manage water system operations, including mixing procedures, temperature control, and flow management
-
Test, record and report on system performance, including heat exchanger efficiency, LHO readings, flowmeter and well readings.

Maintain accurate and detailed records of maintenance activities and equipment startup/shutdown and site operational data

Track oxygen and propane levels and coordinate timely deliveries as required

Adhere to and enforce all safety procedures such as Lockout/Tagout (LOTO)

Liaise and coordinate with external trades and contractors for specialized maintenance and repair work

Test and ensure functionality of backup systems regularly and critical operational equipment

Ensure compliance with site biosecurity protocols and Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) standards
Qualifications:

1-2 years related or general maintenance work experience, with a preference for previous experience in Aquaculture, particularly in hatchery design, construction or recirculation

Certificate or Diploma from accredited programs in Aquaculture, or related field is considered an asset

Strong mechanical aptitude with hands-on experience in maintenance and repair
-
Experience working in a hatchery or aquaculture environment is an asset

Demonstrates the ability to evaluate information, analyze problems, and develop effective logical solutions

Experience with hatchery equipment including recirculation systems, generators, pumps, bulk tanks, UV filters, and heat exchangers

Skilled in operating forklifts, power tools, and other heavy equipment
-
Ability to perform physically demanding work, including outdoor tasks in varying weather conditions

Physically capable of lifting and moving materials up to 50 pounds, and heavier loads with appropriate equipment
-
Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively
-
Ability to collaborate with internal teams and external contractors to ensure timely maintenance and repairs
-
Valid driver’s license in good standing is required.
