Job Overview
Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the Quality Supervisor is accountable for leading the unionized hourly Quality Control (QC) team through ongoing mentoring, training, and feedback. As a Quality Supervisor, you are responsible for the performance of the Quality Control (QC) Inspectors, as well as managing all activity within the Quality Laboratory, including performance management as necessary. You will also be responsible for relaying and ensuring mutual interdepartmental understanding on the floor, providing day-to-day technical guidance and direction to the QC Inspectors.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Plan and coordinate weekly and weekend QC Inspector schedules, and review and approve timesheets
- Schedule testing experiments and review workload for QC Inspectors
- Promote safe working behaviors; address any Laboratory safety concerns
- Perform test experiments and generates inspection and test reports, certificates of compliance and inspection test plans
- Maintain and execute the calibration program as per applicable standards and procedures
- Lead continuous improvement in the Quality Laboratory, including upgrades to measurement equipment, testing methods, processes, and work environment conditions
- Manage supplier quality for externally sourced materials (e.g., sheet metal, rubber components) and coordinate corrective actions and supplier improvement initiatives
- Coordinate with external laboratories and certification bodies to support product testing and regulatory compliance (e.g., CSA, UL)
- Facilitate inspections and audits by external inspectors from regulatory organizations, customers and auditors
- Develop and implement test methods and procedures meeting regulatory requirements and customer specifications
- Perform First Article Inspection (FAI’s) or Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) layouts, as required
- Ensure compliance with applicable requirements such as ISO 9001, customer specifications and quality best practices
- Provide input on quality issues to be addressed by the Production and Engineering departments
- Investigate customer complaints and prepare RMA and/or NCR reports
- Assist in the day-to-day operations of the Quality department
- Other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Demonstrated supervisory experience considered an asset
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, including Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance, specifications, standards, and testing procedures
- Thorough knowledge of quality inspection, measuring, and testing equipment
- Sound knowledge and understanding of ISO 9001 Quality System requirements
- Problem solving skills to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner; develop alternative solutions and work well in a team environment

- Office skills through education, training and experience, including, but not limited to PC, must have good communication (verbal and written) skills
Education and Experience
- Post-secondary diploma or degree with a focus in Quality Assurance or Mechanical Engineering considered an asset
- CQT or ASQ certifications preferred
- Minimum 5 years of experience as a Quality Technician in a manufacturing environment
- Must possess excellent organization and communication skills; high attention to detail; ability to work with all levels of management; and ability to work independently or in teams

Work conditions are consistent with a manufacturing plant environment. The Quality Supervisor requires a moderate degree of physical fitness, as the role requires them to lift up to 35 lbs. This role also requires some standing and walking throughout the Quality Laboratory area as required. The Quality Supervisor must also be able to work near moving mechanical machinery and must be able to work in an environment with high noise levels (hearing protection required in some areas).
