Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced (at least 5 years) Apple Orchard Manager to oversee the daily operations of our high-density orchard. The ideal candidate will be responsible for maintaining healthy apple trees, managing farm equipment, and ensuring optimal crop production. This role requires strong leadership, technical knowledge of horticulture and farm machinery, and the ability to perform physically demanding tasks in an outdoor environment. The Orchard Manager will play a vital role in sustaining high-quality fruit yields while implementing sustainable farming practices.
Duties
- Oversee orchard maintenance, including pruning, fertilizing, and pest control to promote healthy tree growth
- Manage irrigation systems to ensure proper water distribution across the orchard
- Operate and maintain farm machinery such as tractors, sprayers, and harvest equipment
- Conduct regular inspections of trees and equipment to identify issues early and perform necessary repairs or coordinate maintenance
- Utilize hand tools and power tools for various tasks including planting, pruning, and repairs
- Coordinate harvesting activities, ensuring efficient collection of apples at peak ripeness
- Implement safety protocols for heavy lifting and operation of heavy equipment to ensure a safe working environment
- Maintain detailed records of orchard activities, crop yields, and equipment maintenance schedules
- Supervise staff involved in orchard care, providing training on proper use of tools and safety procedures
Skills
- Mechanical knowledge for troubleshooting farm machinery and equipment
- Strong understanding of horticulture principles related to apple cultivation
- Experience with irrigation systems management
- Ability to operate heavy equipment safely and efficiently
- Familiarity with maintenance procedures for farm tools and power tools
