The Shady Rest Restaurant & Pub is looking for an experienced, hands-on Assistant Kitchen Manager to help lead our culinary team and maintain the high standards our guests have come to expect.
This is an ideal opportunity for a strong line cook, sous chef, or kitchen supervisor looking to take the next step into leadership. We are seeking someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, takes pride in food quality, and understands the importance of efficient service and team development.
What You'll Do
- Lead and support the kitchen team during service
- Ensure all dishes are prepared and presented to company standards
- Monitor ticket times and kitchen flow to maintain efficient service
- Assist in managing daily line operations and station organization
- Train, coach, and develop kitchen staff
- Maintain food quality, consistency, and portion control
- Ensure compliance with food safety and sanitation standards
- Support scheduling and labour management initiatives
- Help create a positive, professional, and accountable kitchen culture
- Work closely with management to improve systems, efficiency, and guest satisfaction
What We're Looking For
- 2+ years of leadership experience in a restaurant kitchen
- Strong understanding of line management and kitchen operations
- Ability to lead by example in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent organizational and communication skills
- Commitment to food quality, consistency, and cleanliness
- Experience with inventory control and food costing is considered an asset
- Food Safe Certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Flexible availability including evenings, weekends, and holidays
