LOCATION: On-Site
DAYS: Monday to Friday
HOURS: 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM - On-call will be required from time to time
POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the Manager of Fleet and the direction of the Lead Hand, the Mechanical Technician is responsible for the maintenance and repair of all City of Nelson vehicles and equipment.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Grade 12 or GED (General Equivalency Diploma).
- Commercial Vehicle Inspectors Program Certificate with Propane Designation to inspect and repair propane-operated vehicles and equipment.
- Red Seal Certified as an Automotive Technician, Heavy Duty Technician, or Commercial Transport Technician.
- Propane Certificate.
- Valid Class 3 BC Drivers License with air brake endorsement.
- 1 year recent experience in gas and electric welding, wire feed welding, hydraulics and operating heavy equipment.
- 1 years recent related experience with computerized diagnostic equipment.

- Physical ability to perform the duties of the position
- Ability to interact with other employees and the public in a tactful and courteous manner
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
- Ability to operate related equipment
- Ability to work in a computerized environment
- Ability to organize work
- Familiarity with related municipal policies and procedures
- Familiarity with City of Nelson/municipal and Worksafe BC safety procedures
