- Keeping families together while addressing the needs/issues that brought them into care.
- Providing the space and the time to practice new parenting skills in a fully supported environment.
- Sheltering and providing for the entire family in order to reduce the daily living stressors so that parents can focus on healing their traumas and those of their children.
- Providing a culturally relevant program for connection and access to cultural events.
- Meeting individual family needs through tailored programming.
- Minimizing ACEs for children by providing a healthy and safe home environment with their parents.
- Long-term successful parenting that sees a reduction in return to care.
- Supported visitation while parents work towards goals of home visits
Growing Up Hope Society is looking for 1-2 Parent Outreach / Visit Support Workers. Rate of pay and specific days to be discussed, however weekend availability is a requirement. Location in Abbotsford, Chilliwack and Mission BC.
We are looking for candidates who understand that the key to growth is relationship and who have the education and experience to develop meaningful relationships with people from hard places. As an outreach parent educator/visit support you will be responsible for:
- Supporting families with managing life, and visitation with their children, either in home, in the community or in our visitation space
- Attending appointments / meetings /activities with families
- Evaluating development of skills taught in our in-home parenting/life skills program and provides input for updating Care Plans
- Modeling attachment parenting through positive interaction and relationship building
- Model appropriate / professional conduct with community
- Identify and advise coordinators of concerning behaviours (areas that require further focus in program work)
- Following house protocols for safety, incident reporting
- Provides emotional support and feedback to families in home in a respectful way
- Completes related records such as log books, charts, incident reports
- Light house keeping and home maintenance duties (as identified in programming) and meal preparation (if identified in programming)
- Recognizes aggressive behaviour triggers and is able to deescalate using relationship (or other non-violent crisis intervention strategies)
- Putting your own bias/ideas to the side and working with families from a strength based place, while protecting the uniqueness of their healthier family dynamics
- Other related duties as required
Qualifications:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, legible penmanship
- Certificate in related human / social service field
- 1 year related experience or combination education/training/experience
- Understanding of Canada’s history with Indigenous people and its impact on our families
- Complete Criminal Record and Prior Contact (MCFD) Search proving ability to work with vulnerable youth and families
- FoodSafe Certification
- First Aid / CPR (including CPR C for infants and children)
- Class 5 Driver’s Licence, own vehicle with 5 million liability insurance, provide a clean Driver’s Abstract
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and be physically capable of activities such as walking, hiking, lifting children
- Ideal candidates would also have non-violent crisis intervention training/Mandt
