The Transit Student is responsible for supporting the Transit Operations Supervisor with the day to day operations and scheduling of the specialized bus services, and for assisting with the monitoring of the day to day service and respective issues with the County’s contractor of the conventional and specialized transit service. The student will be the liaison with the finance department during the Transit start up period. The student will help development and recommend the proper protocols and requirements for the finance department for reporting financial requirements of the transit Department. The Transit Co-op Student will help in the development and usage of statistics of transit information on ridership and fare box revenues.
1. Assist with the development of an annual business plan and action plan to achieve desired results including regular evaluation of targets and outcomes.
2. Responsible for assisting with the planning of the day to day operations of the startup of the business elements of the Transit Department
3. Provide the liaison with the finance department during the startup period of the transit Department.
4. Establish a business plan and protocols for the Transit Department with Finance department to ensure proper reporting procedures occur on a regular basis.
5. Establish a Fare Box (revenue) protocol to get farebox revenues from bus contractor.
6. Assist in the preparation of contract compliance reports including all performance standards measurements for the Transit Operations Supervisor. Calculate payment reductions if applicable and monthly contract payments for the Transit Operations Supervisor.
7. Receive and evaluate eligibility applications and recommend approval for specialized transit service. Maintain up to date list of client data bases for specialized transit service.
8. Receive, investigate and track all customer complaints maintain statistics relating to complaints and commendations.
9. Monitor the collection and processing of fare box revenues.
10. Perform studies and prepare reports including ridership data and system performance for conventional and specialized transit services.
11. Monitor and respond to operational activities including preparing customer service alerts and service disruptions notices.
12. Assist the Transit Operations Supervisor and County support staff to develop and implement short and long term marketing strategies including ride guides and web applications.
13. Support with the development and maintenance of communication networks for awareness and education including travel training for public transit services.
14. Perform other duties as assigned.
15. Comply and ensure adherence to all provincial and county occupational health and safety legislation, Acts, Regulations, policies and procedures.
16. Maintain confidentiality in accordance with the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.
- Applicant to be enrolled in a Business related program at a College, University or Post-Secondary Institution
- Civil Engineering or Transportation Technology or related diploma considered an asset
- Ability to deal effectively with the public, customers and municipal councils
- Computer literacy utilizing the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access)
- Good public relations and communications skills
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team
- A valid G class Driver’s License with access to a reliable vehicle to use for corporate business
- Must provide a clear criminal reference check from within the last 6 months
