Position Summary
Zellers is seeking a dependable, resourceful and motivated Retail Maintenance Technician to support the maintenance, repair, installation and setup needs of our retail stores.
The position will be based in the Greater Toronto Area but will require regular travel to Zellers store locations throughout Canada. This role is ideal for someone with 1–3 years of handyman, maintenance or construction experience who enjoys varied, hands-on work and can work independently with minimal supervision.
The successful candidate must have a reliable truck or van, their own basic tools and the flexibility to travel overnight when required.
Key Responsibilities
- Install retail wall standards, shelving, brackets, fixtures and display components.
- Assemble and install retail furniture, cabinetry, counters and store fixtures.
- Complete interior painting, drywall patching, sanding and touch-up work.
- Perform general carpentry, trim and repair work.
- Install and replace light fixtures, bulbs and ceiling tiles.
- Complete basic plumbing repairs, including replacing faucets, toilets, sink drains and minor plumbing fixtures.
- Install signage, mirrors, artwork, whiteboards and miscellaneous store equipment.
- Repair doors, locks, handles, shelving, hardware and store fixtures.
- Complete minor flooring, baseboard, trim and cosmetic repairs.
- Support new store openings, renovations, relocations and store refresh projects.
- Troubleshoot general store maintenance issues and recommend practical solutions.
- Purchase or pick up materials and supplies required to complete assigned projects.
- Maintain a clean, safe and organized work area.
- Respond to maintenance requests in a timely and professional manner.
- Communicate project progress, material requirements and any concerns to management.
- Ensure all work is completed safely and in accordance with company standards.
- Coordinate with licensed tradespeople when work falls outside the scope of general maintenance.
Qualifications
- 1–3 years of handyman, facilities maintenance, construction or related experience.
- Experience with painting, drywall repair, basic carpentry, fixture installation and general repairs.
- Basic knowledge of plumbing repairs and light-fixture installation.
- Strong working knowledge of common hand and power tools.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple assignments.
- Ability to follow instructions, drawings and installation plans.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, climb ladders and perform physical work throughout the day.
- Valid Ontario G Driver’s Licence and a clean driving record.
- Must have a reliable truck or van suitable for transporting tools, equipment and materials.
- Must own the basic hand and power tools required to perform the position.
- Must be able and willing to travel throughout Canada to support Zellers stores.
- Must be available for overnight and multi-day travel when required.
- Flexibility to occasionally work evenings or weekends based on store and project requirements.
Tools and Equipment
The successful candidate will be expected to provide their own basic hand and power tools.
Zellers will purchase or provide major, specialized or project-specific tools and equipment that the employee does not already own and that are required to complete assigned work.
Compensation and Benefits
- Salary of $55,000–$60,000 per year, based on experience.
- Mileage reimbursement for approved business travel using the employee’s personal vehicle.

Travel Requirements
This position involves regular driving throughout the Greater Toronto Area and surrounding regions. The employee must also be prepared to travel throughout Canada to support store openings, renovations, installations, maintenance projects and other operational requirements.
Travel may include overnight stays and multi-day assignments. The frequency and duration of travel will vary depending on business and project needs.
