About AORS
The Association of Ontario Road Supervisors (AORS) is a not-for-profit, member-driven organization representing municipal public works professionals across Ontario. AORS supports excellence in municipal public works through advocacy, education and training, professional certification, networking, and industry partnerships. Through events, education, and communications, AORS connects thousands of municipal professionals and industry partners each year.
Position Summary
The Marketing and Communications Specialist is responsible for planning, creating, and delivering engaging communications and marketing initiatives that support member engagement, event participation, and the overall visibility of AORS across Ontario.
This hands-on role combines content creation, digital marketing, event support, and stakeholder coordination. The Specialist leads the development of AORS’ social media, newsletters, print publications, and promotional campaigns, while also supporting trade shows, webinars, and major Association events.
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Specialist works closely with staff, volunteers and the Marketing and Communications Committee to implement annual marketing plans and ensure consistent, professional, and member-focused communications.
Key Responsibilities
Digital Communications & Content Creation
· Plan, design, and manage AORS’ social media presence across platforms, including creating graphics, videos, and written content.
· Develop and schedule engaging content that promotes programs, advocacy, events, training, and member stories.
· Monitor analytics and performance metrics to inform strategy and improve reach and engagement.
· Maintain brand consistency across all digital communications.
E-Newsletter & Publications
· Design, write, and produce the weekly AORS e-newsletter distributed to more than 4,000 subscribers.
· Coordinate content collection from staff, partners, and contributors.
· Develop and oversee the production of the printed ADVANCE newsletter published twice annually, including layout, editing, vendor coordination, and deadlines.
· Ensure all communications are accurate, timely, and aligned with AORS messaging and standards.
Member Communications
· Create clear, compelling communications for members, including announcements, event promotions, updates, and campaigns.
· Support email marketing, website content updates, and other digital channels.
· Ensure members are informed and engaged with AORS programs and opportunities.
Events, Trade Shows & Outreach
· Identify, plan, and coordinate trade shows and conferences that align with AORS’ municipal and construction-focused audiences.
· Manage logistics including booth materials, shipping, set-up, staffing, on-site support, and tear-down.
· Represent AORS professionally at events and engage with members, partners, and prospective stakeholders.
· Support the planning and execution of AORS’ premier events, including the AORS Municipal Public Works Trade Show and the AORS Provincial Truck Safety Roadeo.
Campaigns & Annual Planning
· Work with the Marketing and Communications Committee to develop and implement annual marketing and communications plans.
· Develop themed campaigns and promotional plans for initiatives such as National Public Works Week, National Road Safety Week, International Women’s Day, and National Skilled Trades Week.
· Coordinate timelines, assets, and messaging to ensure cohesive campaigns across platforms.
Webinars & Educational Promotion
· Coordinate and host webinars on topics relevant to members, including scheduling, promotion, speaker coordination, and technical facilitation.
· Support promotion of training programs and educational offerings.
Collaboration & Administration
· Collaborate with staff, volunteers, and partners to gather content and promote initiatives.
· Maintain marketing calendars, asset libraries, and brand resources.
· Track results and provide reports on campaign and event performance.
· Perform other duties as assigned to support the goals of the Association.
Qualifications & Experience
· Post-secondary education in marketing, communications, public relations, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
· 3–5 years of experience in marketing, communications, or a similar role, preferably within a not-for-profit, association, or municipal environment.
· Demonstrated experience managing social media, email marketing, and print/digital publications.
· Experience supporting or coordinating events and trade shows.
· Graphic design and content creation skills (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, WordPress and/or similar tools).
Skills & Competencies
· Excellent writing, editing, and storytelling abilities.
· Strong visual design and layout skills.
· Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
· Self-starter who can work independently in a remote environment.
· Comfortable interacting with members, volunteers, and external partners.
· Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
· Proficiency with email marketing platforms, social scheduling tools, and website content management systems.
Reporting Relationship
· Reports directly to the Executive Director.
Working Conditions
· Full-time position.
· Primarily remote work, with regular travel across Ontario to attend trade shows, conferences, and events.
· Occasional evening and weekend work required to support events and deadlines.
Compensation
· Salary range is $65,000 - $72,000 based on experience, and includes OMERS pension plan.
Pay: $65,000.00-$72,000.00 per year
