The Opportunity
We are seeking hardworking and dependable individuals to join our team in the role of Excavator & Trackmobile Operator, based in the Sudbury, Ontario area. This is a hands-on role suitable for a safety-conscious, reliable individual who takes pride in their equipment and their work.
Your Day-to-Day
- Safely operate excavators, trackmobiles, and other heavy equipment as required
- Operate the trackmobile to move, position, and secure rail cars within the yard and unloading areas
- Perform daily pre-operational inspections of the excavator, trackmobile, rail cars, and associated equipment prior to each shift
- Coordinate rail car movements to support unloading activities and production requirements
- Unload various cement products from rail cars in accordance with site procedures
- Monitor rail car conditions and report any mechanical issues, defects, or safety concerns
- Manage and report inventory and production
- Clean and lubricate and refuel equipment as required
- Monitor equipment fitness, and ever-changing conditions
- Perform minor repairs to equipment when required
- Maintain accurate electronic hours of service logs and vehicle inspection logs
- Perform physically demanding work including lifting up to 50 lbs, bending, crouching, climbing, crawling, repetitive reaching, and extended periods of standing throughout the workday
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
- Work evenings, weekends, and extended hours as required to meet operational and project demands
- Work in accordance with all internal, client and regulated health and safety policies, procedures and/or regulations, including wearing appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- Perform other related duties as assigned
You Are a Good Fit If You Have
Required:
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience operating an excavator
- Valid G class Driver’s License
- Strong commitment to safety and teamwork
Considered an Asset:
- Previous experience operating a trackmobile or similar rail yard equipment
- Experience working with rail cars and bulk material handling
- Surface Miner Common Core
- Highschool Diploma or equivalent
Skills & Abilities:
- Successfully passed comprehensive pre-employment third party testing requirements (drug and alcohol testing and a Criminal Background Check (CPIC) and any other requirements they impose on contractors)
- Must be willing to remove all facial hair (if applicable) for respirator fit test and remain clean shaven when required to wear a respirator.
- Strong understanding of safe rail car handling and switching procedures
- Knowledge of loading requirements, techniques, and practices
- Ability to perform physically intensive and strenuous tasks
- Ability to work efficiently with minimal supervision
- Strong communication skills with supervisors, coworkers, and clients
- Ability to adapt to changing job requirements and schedules
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
- Professional attitude and strong work ethic

This position is governed by a collective agreement with Operating Engineers Local 793. The pay range posted reflects base compensation under the applicable agreement. Placement within the range is based on experience, qualifications, and union provisions. Benefits and other incentives are offered separately.
