Job Description
Tl’azt’en Nation is seeking an experienced, organized, and community focused Housing Manager to oversee housing programs, tenant services, maintenance coordination, housing records, inspections, reporting, and long term housing planning.
This role is ideal for someone who understands housing operations, tenant relations, maintenance needs, budgets, policies, and the importance of safe, healthy, and well maintained homes for community members.
About the Role
The Housing Manager is responsible for supporting the day to day operation of the Nation’s housing program. This includes working with tenants, coordinating repairs and maintenance, supporting housing applications and allocations, maintaining records, preparing reports, and ensuring housing processes are fair, consistent, and aligned with Nation policies.
The successful candidate will be professional, respectful, organized, and able to work with community members, contractors, staff, leadership, and external agencies.
Duties and Responsibilities
Oversee the daily operations of the Housing Department.
Coordinate housing applications, tenant files, occupancy records, and housing related documentation.
Support housing allocation processes in accordance with approved policies and procedures.
Maintain accurate records of housing units, tenants, maintenance needs, inspections, repairs, and work orders.
Coordinate repairs, maintenance, inspections, renovations, and contractor work.
Work with Public Works, Finance, Administration, contractors, and leadership to support housing operations.
Respond to tenant concerns, housing inquiries, and maintenance requests in a professional and timely manner.
Support rent collection tracking, arrears follow up, payment plans, and related documentation where applicable.
Prepare housing reports, briefing notes, budgets, workplans, and funding updates.
Assist with housing budgets, funding proposals, capital planning, and reporting requirements.
Conduct or coordinate housing inspections and follow up on required repairs.
Support emergency housing response and urgent maintenance coordination as needed.
Ensure housing policies, procedures, and records are applied consistently and confidentially.
Build positive working relationships with tenants, community members, contractors, staff, and external partners.
Identify housing gaps, repair priorities, and long term housing needs.
Support planning for new housing, renovations, maintenance schedules, and community housing priorities.
Supervise or support housing staff, contractors, or temporary workers where applicable.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Post secondary education in housing management, property management, business administration, public administration, community development, construction, or a related field is considered an asset.
Experience in housing administration, property management, tenant relations, maintenance coordination, or community program management.
Experience working with First Nations housing programs is strongly preferred.
Knowledge of housing policies, tenant files, inspections, maintenance planning, rent tracking, and contractor coordination.
Strong communication, conflict resolution, and relationship building skills.
Strong organizational, planning, reporting, and file management skills.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive housing matters professionally.
Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities.
Experience with budgets, funding reports, workplans, and basic financial tracking.
Computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, email, and file management systems.
Knowledge of Tl’azt’en Nation culture and community, or willingness to learn.
Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s Licence is preferred.
Satisfactory Criminal Record Check may be required.
