Working Foreman / Lead Carpenter - Commercial Construction & Service Projects
Ottawa, ON
Full-Time
Reports To: Site Superintendent / Project Manager
About Haven Building Group Inc.
Haven Building Group Inc. is a growing commercial and institutional construction company based in Ottawa.
Our work is heavily focused within the condominium and property management sector, where we complete both large-scale tendered construction projects and responsive service-based work.
We regularly work alongside engineering firms, consultants, condominium corporations, and property managers on projects including:
- Building envelope restoration
- Balcony and parking garage repairs
- Structural and exterior rehabilitation
- Commercial renovations and fit-ups
- Capital repair projects for condominium corporations
- Ongoing service, repair, and maintenance work
Our team works across a diverse mix of larger construction projects and fast-paced service environments, providing steady work, strong variety, and opportunities for long-term growth.
We are looking for a true Working Foreman / Lead Carpenter — someone who wants to stay hands-on while helping lead crews and support project execution across both project and service environments.
This is not a desk role.
The ideal candidate takes pride in craftsmanship, thrives in fast-paced environments, and can confidently lead by example while remaining on the tools approximately 90% of the time.
What You’ll Be Doing Hands
On Construction Work (Primary Focus – ~90%)
- Perform daily construction work across a variety of commercial and institutional projects
- Complete repairs, restorations, renovations, and service-related work
- Lead by example on the tools while maintaining high workmanship standards

Large Project Support
- Support larger construction projects awarded through engineering firms and consultants
- Assist Site Superintendents with project execution, coordination, and site productivity

Service & Small Project Execution
- Handle smaller, fast-paced jobs including:
- Deficiency repairs
- Building envelope issues
- Tenant-related work
- General service calls
- Troubleshoot site conditions and solve problems independently
- Work professionally in occupied and client-facing environments
Leadership & Crew Support
- Provide direction to small crews (1–3 workers) and subcontractors
- Support Site Superintendents on larger projects when required
- Help coordinate work, sequencing, and daily site operations
- Keep projects moving efficiently and safely
Quality & Accountability
- Ensure all work meets Haven’s quality standards and project specifications
- Identify deficiencies early and take ownership of corrections
- Maintain clean, organized, and professional job sites
Health & Safety
- Follow and enforce site safety standards
- Participate in toolbox talks and safety procedures
- Lead by example in all aspects of job site conduct
Communication
- Provide updates to the Site Superintendent / Project Manager
- Coordinate materials and communicate upcoming site needs
- Maintain basic daily logs and site notes when required
Who This Role Is Perfect For
- A senior carpenter or experienced lead hand who prefers working on the tools over sitting in a trailer
- Someone comfortable with service work, restoration projects, and changing job site environments
- A self-starter who can work independently without constant supervision
- A leader who balances hands-on production with crew support responsibilities
- Someone looking to grow with a company expanding its commercial construction division

- Strong carpentry and general construction skills

- Ability to read drawings and understand construction details
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities
- Solid understanding of construction health & safety practices
- Professional, reliable, and detail-oriented
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation preferred
- Experience with restoration, concrete repair, waterproofing, or building envelope work is considered an asset
What We Offer
- Competitive hourly wage or Salary (based on experience)
- Performance-based bonuses
- Vehicle allowance (role dependent)
- Health & dental benefits
- Paid time off and holidays
