Key Responsibilities
Estimation Leadership & Execution
- Prepare accurate and detailed cost estimates for construction projects.
- Lead bid preparation, ensuring alignment with client requirements and company capabilities.
- Review specifications, tender documents, engineered drawings, and site conditions.
- Interpret blueprints and construction drawings to determine scope of work, materials, and labour requirements.
- Support the development and maintenance of standardized estimating procedures and cost databases.
- Identify project risks and assist in developing contingency plans in collaboration with project managers.
Client & Stakeholder Relations
- Communicate with clients, subcontractors, and vendors to gather project information.
- Support the presentation of estimates and recommendations to clients.
- Build and maintain positive working relationships to support ongoing and future projects.
- Assist in identifying new business opportunities and maintaining leads.
- Coordinate with vendors and subcontractors to obtain competitive pricing.
Financial Management & Reporting
- Ensure estimates align with project budgets and financial goals.
- Track estimate accuracy and assist in resolving discrepancies during project execution.
- Prepare cost breakdowns and support financial forecasting.
- Assist with annual and quarterly bookkeeping related to parts and permits in company systems.
Project Support & Continuous Improvement
- Provide support throughout project execution, including scope changes and cost updates.
- Assist in reviewing and managing change orders.
- Contribute to improving estimating processes and efficiency.
- Stay informed on industry trends, codes, and regulations.
Compliance & Quality Assurance
- Ensure estimates comply with applicable codes, safety regulations, and industry standards.
- Support quality control measures for estimate accuracy.
- Participate in project reviews comparing estimated vs. actual costs.
Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of experience in construction estimating or a related role.
- High school diploma required (post-secondary education in construction or a related field is an asset).
- Basic understanding of construction methods, materials, and cost estimating principles.
- Ability to read and interpret drawings and specifications.
- Effective communication and willingness to learn.
- Experience with estimating software is an asset but not required.
