French Teacher (1 Year Contract)
About Hillfield Strathallan College
Founded in 1901, Hillfield Strathallan College (HSC) offers a seamless academic journey from 18 months to 18 years. Located on a 50-acre campus on Hamilton's West Mountain, HSC provides a unique educational pathway for students through four school offerings: Junior, Montessori, Middle and Senior. HSC prepares students to live with purpose – to understand their world, inspire, lead, act and make a difference in their own unique ways.
We are currently recruiting for a French teacher in our Senior School (Gr.9 – Gr. 12) for the upcoming 2026-2027 school year.
Position Overview:
Under the direction of the Principal of the Senior School, the teacher is responsible for:
Teaching senior French (grades 9 - 12)
Exploring and promoting research-based best practices
Fully immersing themselves in the community and culture of HSC
Open, clear and timely communication with students, parents and colleagues
to the extracurricular life of the College
Employ classroom management practices including establishing and enforcing student expectations for creating a supportive, safe, collaborative, caring, and effective learning environment
Contribution to and participation in the co-curricular program
Qualifications
Undergraduate degree required. A degree in French and/or Additional Qualifications in Intermediate and Senior French are considered strong assets.
An Ontario Teachers’ Certificate or equivalent
A minimum of two (2) years of teaching French at the Senior school level
Strong communication skills in French;
Experience with online teaching and Google tools
Explore and promote research-based best practices
Strong communication skills using email, LMS and other channels
Familiar with Ontario’s Growing Success approach to assessment and evaluation
Experience in CEFR and DELF training, as well as in-practice and pedagogy, is an asset but not required.
Experience in coaching would be considered an asset
