Position Details
Reporting to the Executive Director, Pronghorn Athletics & Recreation, the Director, Pronghorn Athletics provides leadership and operational oversight for the University’s intercollegiate athletics program, ensuring a high-quality student‑athlete experience and strong alignment with institutional priorities. The Director plays a central role in advancing the reputation, competitiveness, and sustainability of Pronghorn Athletics within Canada West and U SPORTS.
The Director, Pronghorn Athletics is responsible for the day‑to‑day operations of Pronghorn Athletics for the benefit of students, University faculty and staff, alumni, and the broader community. This leadership role oversees varsity sport programs, supports high‑performance and student‑athlete development, and ensures effective administration, budgeting, and governance in alignment with the mission and vision of Pronghorn Athletics & Recreation.
Working closely with coaches, integrated support staff, campus partners, and external stakeholders, the Director fosters a culture of excellence, inclusion, and compliance, and contributes to strategic planning and long‑term growth of athletics at the University of Lethbridge.
The University of Lethbridge is undertaking a job classification and compensation review for Administrative Professional Officer (APO) positions. As such, the salary range currently assigned for this position may be adjusted as a result of this project.
Position Qualifications
Education Bachelor Degree
Years of Experience 5-7 years
Job-Specific Knowledge and Technical Skills
This position must be able to foster and maintain positive relationships with students, staff, faculty, alumni, community members, members of sport governing bodies as well as community- based organizations and agencies:
- Skills in developing policy and procedure documentation;
- Ability to make administrative/procedural decisions and sound judgments;
- Ability to review financial information and contribute to long and short term financial planning;
- Experience in compiling information and designing/preparing reports;
- Ability to work independently while exercising excellent judgment;
- Tact, diplomacy and strong interpersonal skills;
- Ability to manage a diverse range of complex projects and initiatives;
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
The successful candidate will be required to provide a satisfactory Criminal Record Check.
Starting Salary Range (at 1.0 FTE)
$87,035.58 - $109,490.73 annually
Full Salary Range (at 1.0 FTE)
$87,035.58 - $131,945.88 annually (APO - Grade 5)
