Salary Range: $137,000 - $160,000 Annually
We are looking for a Senior Advisor to lead Suncor’s provincial government relations in Ontario and work closely with Suncor’s Director for Government Relations. You will be responsible for developing and executing government relations plans, managing relationships and issues, developing and advocating policy positions, and working collaboratively with internal clients and external stakeholders on important issues related to Suncor’s businesses. You offer superb judgement, uncommon and actionable insights, a talent for both strategy and execution, and an affinity for identifying and building common policy ground between government priorities and business objectives.

Minimum Requirements:
- Proven experience planning and executing government relations strategies, policy initiatives, issues management, and stakeholder relations
- Strong understanding of Ontario and federal government processes, as well as the political, economic, environmental, and social factors impacting the energy/resource sector
- University degree in Political Science, Public Policy, Business, or associated field with minimum 10 years related experience; or equivalent combination. An advanced degree would be an asset
- Strong level of knowledge of and skill in working with both levels of government; successful experience in developing policy, legislative, and regulatory recommendations that support both government and the private sector objectives
- Demonstrated success working with government, industry associations, and diverse stakeholders to advance policy, legislative, and regulatory objectives
- Excellent communication, advocacy, research, and issues management skills with the ability to influence and build trusted relationships
- Strategic, adaptable team player with the ability to manage multiple priorities, navigate complex issues, and deliver results in a fast-paced environment
Responsibilities:
- Lead government relations in Ontario and contribute to federal government relations through management of relationships, development and execution of GR plans and related materials, identification and management of issues, , and research and development of policy
- Develop plans, briefing notes, and position papers for key issues, initiatives, or opportunities
- Collaborate with government and other stakeholders to develop policy options and inform policy development
- Provide strategic counsel and support to senior company leaders across a wide range of businesses and issues
- Collaborate with internal and external business partners and associations on key issues and opportunities
- Work collaboratively as a member of the government relations team and support Director of Government Relations on key files as required
Location and other details:
- You will work out of your home office in Ottawa. The head office is located at 2489 North Sheridan Way
- Working in a dynamic operating environment
- Regular working hours are from Monday – Friday / 40 hours per week
- Some irregular hours may be required i.e. project work, attending functions, etc. with occasional business travel
