Position Overview
As the Director of Care, you will oversee the delivery of high-quality care services within our organization. Your leadership and supervising experience will be essential in managing staff and ensuring compliance with care standards. With a focus on assisted living and senior care, you will implement best practices in medication administration. Your strong communication skills and certifications, including First Aid and CPR, will support your role in fostering a compassionate environment for residents and their families.
Qualifications:
- Current license with the Ontario College of Nurses in good standing
- Current First Aid and CPR Certification
- Police Record Check (as per RHA), including VSC
- TB Testing
- Demonstrated experience with medication administration
- Previous employment in a health care/hospitality setting an asset
- Knowledge of the Nursing practices and nursing diagnosis.
- Good communication and leadership skills.
- Willingness to update and keep current their knowledge of changing regulations, practices and procedures as required by the College of Nurses.
Responsibilities:
- Provide professional nursing care to all residents and supervise care given in the nursing unit.
- Assess all resident needs and planning, implementing and evaluating the care program.
- Work closely with General Manager, Attending Physicians, Food Services and Activity/Recreation.
- Supervise all staff in nursing unit.
- Provide directions and supervision of all Care staff.
- Assess residents' conditions by recognizing signs and symptoms and where necessary initiates remedial health measures.
- Contacting resident's attending physician when there is a change in resident's physical or mental condition.
- Responsible to ensure safekeeping of drug and narcotic keys, including organizing and ensuring medications are reviewed in keeping with the residence’s medication review cycle, where medications are provided.
- Oversee the medication administration program.
- Monitors staff performance and completes performance appraisals during probation period and annually thereafter.
- Responsible for leadership, coaching, and mentoring to all regulated and Unregulated Care Providers.
- Responsible for admission and discharge of residents.
- Maintain liaison with families of residents.
- Ensures medical records are maintained.
- Ensures all personal health information is maintained as per PHIPA.
- Ensures daily/weekly and monthly duties are completed and rosters are maintained.
- Completes monthly weights and blood pressures on all residents.
- Ensures nursing documentation is complete as per College of Nurses' Nursing Documentation guidelines.
- Answers call bells and assist where necessary. Lead/initiate/monitor emergency response protocol and effectiveness for the department.
- Orders medications from pharmacy as per Doctor's orders.
- Adheres to all established policies and procedures.
- Responsible for making the appropriate plans for discharge as necessary.
- Completes and follows up on incident reports where necessary.
- Provides emergency medical care.
- Ensures there are sufficient staff on duty to provide the services which are offered.
- Assists residents and/or families in obtaining the services of a physician when necessary.
- Ensures a resident care plan is established and reviewed/revised at least every six months.
- Facilitates contact with other Health Care facilities and educational facilities.
- Collaborates with volunteers and staff in the development and implementation of activity programs and outside services.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $70,000.00-$80,000.00 per year
