We are seeking an Airport Zone Manager to ensure safe and reliable transportation to remote communities. In this role, you'll lead a dedicated team in managing and maintaining multiple remote airports and their infrastructure across a vast geographical area.

The
Remote Northern Transportation Office operates and manages 29 airports in Northern Ontario. These airports provide year-round transportation to isolated Indigenous communities, including providing access to medical services, professional services (policing, social services, courts & legal services), general movement and emergency response.

Deliver on Business Goals and Priorities
Your leadership will be crucial in guiding the team towards the achievement of it's business goals. It will be your responsibility to inspire and motivate your team to deliver their best performance and align the team's daily actions with the strategic vision of the ministry.
You will contribute to the achievement of team goals by:
- Overseeing and managing ministry staff, casual hires, and contractors in the construction, operation, and maintenance of multiple remote airports and associated infrastructure within a designated geographic area, in support of the ministry's remote northern transportation program.
- Leading the supervision of new airport facility construction, as well as major expansion and rehabilitation projects at existing facilities.
- Coordinating and overseeing the operation, construction, and maintenance activities of remote airports, road systems, and ministry buildings within assigned zones, utilizing both skilled and unskilled labor pools.
- Planning and administering annual maintenance programs and capital projects for numerous remote airports and related infrastructure within designated zones, ensuring the safe, effective, and efficient operation of airport land and road systems.
- Leading airport operations management and overseeing and directing all service functions throughout the zone.
- Providing support for the maintenance program of a substantial fleet of heavy equipment at each remote airport location.
- The successful candidate requires a valid Ontario Driver's License (Class “G”).
- You can ensure comprehensive compliance with legislative statutes, collective agreements, government and ministry policies, directives, guidelines, and commitments pertaining to programs and services.
- You demonstrate astute judgment and political acumen to offer advice and direction to senior management.
- You can foster, cultivate, and guide organizational growth through inclusive, constructive, and values-driven leadership, in areas of organizational structure, recruitment, talent management, performance appraisal, and labor relations.
- You can effectively oversee and regulate allocated financial and material resources, encompassing the development of annual budgets and the management of assets and contracted service providers.
- You can acquire knowledge in airport management, air transportation systems, related Ministry policies, aerodrome operations and maintenance, and construction procedures and practices.
- You can acquire knowledge in federal airport legislation and standards, federal and provincial Occupational Health and Safety legislation, Highway Traffic Act, Federal and Provincial Environmental legislation, Federal and Provincial legislation and regulations of the transportation of dangerous goods, municipal by-laws, and the policies and guidelines for provincially operated airports.
- You have expertise in project management principles and methodologies to manage the delivery of program plans, initiatives, and goals.
- You can ensure the efficient and effective delivery of airport programs such as airport/building construction, pavement upgrades, mobilization of equipment and supplies.
- You can coordinate, monitor, and provide direction to contractors and consultants to maintain and improve airport infrastructure.
- You can use judgment when coordinating, reviewing, and directing all phases of the service functions within the assigned geographic area.
- You demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills to facilitate effective consultation between offices within the ministry, agencies and Indigenous stakeholders/groups.
- You can provide advice and expertise to senior management and discuss matters of mutual concern, sensitive issues and policy clarification to ensure consistency in program administration and operation.
- You have experience interpreting and communicating policies and procedures, providing recommendations to staff, and navigating environments with language barriers.
- You have prior experience operating program specific and standard office software programs and tools to collect data on the program, conduct research and prepare own communication materials.
