Description
The Student Conductor works within the shift teams and communicates with Watco Operations for yard management support. Completes the railcar moves required in the yard for a safe and efficient operation.
This position involves shift work, including days, nights, and weekends, with scheduling flexibility based on operational needs.
Minimum Qualifications/Pre-requisites
- High school education or general education diploma or 3 to 6 months job-related experience; or equivalent of education, and sufficient training in rail operations
- IROR (Industrial Railway Operating Rules) certified
Responsibilities
At the direction of the Conductor, responsibilities of the Student Conductor include but are not limited to:
- Perform switching activities in compliance with all Watco, Provincial/Federal and site-specific requirements.
- Makes sure the outbound trains are:
- Secure and all regulatory requirements met.
- The train is in order as per crew list via railcar tracking system.
- Correct cars are shipped on the proper date and train.
- Safely switch site facilities
- Builds outbound & break up inbound trains as required.
- Performs or assist in process related Root Cause or failure analysis on rail operations related issues.
- Identifies areas for improvement.
- Provide support to address and resolve customer needs.
- Follow all relevant Work Processes
- Utilize electronic mail as required.
- Watco may at any time provide other instructions as required.
Work Environment
The work environment for Team Members will include shift work, exposure to moderate noise, lifting, climbing, walking etc. in all weather conditions.
