Store Operations Assistant – African Grocery Store

We are looking for a dependable and customer-oriented Store Operations Assistant to support the day-to-day operations of our store.
Work Schedule
This position requires availability from Wednesday to Sunday. Employees will be assigned to one of two rotating schedules. Candidates must be available to work Wednesday through Sunday, including Sundays.
Schedule A
- Wednesday–Saturday: 8:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
- Sunday: 11:30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. or 1:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., alternating weekly
Schedule B
- Wednesday–Saturday: 2:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.
- Sunday: 1:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. or 11:30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m., alternating weekly
Sunday rotation: Employees will alternate their Sunday start time each week. For example, an employee scheduled to start at 11:30 a.m. this Sunday will start at 1:00 p.m. the following Sunday, and the rotation will continue weekly.
Applicants should indicate whether Schedule A or Schedule B is their preferred schedule. While we will consider preferences, final schedules will be determined based on operational requirements. Some flexibility in scheduled hours may occasionally be required.
This position involves handling fresh meat and poultry products as part of regular store operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate the cash register and accurately process cash, debit, and credit card transactions
- Answer customer phone calls and contact customers when necessary regarding orders or other inquiries
- Provide friendly, professional, and efficient customer service
- Restock shelves and ensure merchandise is properly displayed
- Receive, organize, and store incoming inventory
- Prepare and organize customer orders and hand completed orders to delivery drivers for dispatch
- Pack produce and meat products and operate meat-cutting equipment as required. Training will be provided.
- Maintain cleanliness throughout the store, including shelves, aisles, checkout areas, storage areas, and common spaces
- Support other store duties as required
Qualifications
- Previous retail, cashier, or customer service experience is an asset but not required
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Basic math and cash-handling skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Reliable, punctual, and professional
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift and carry merchandise weighing up to 50 lbs when required
- Knowledge of African, Caribbean, or international food products is an asset
- Additional language skills are considered an asset but are not required

- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods during shifts
- Ability to regularly lift and carry merchandise weighing up to 50 lbs
- Ability to work in refrigerated and freezer areas
- Ability to perform repetitive tasks such as stocking, packing, cleaning, and order preparation
